Chapter 11

First day back in school. I was excited about seeing Kagami again. We hadn't spoken since he dropped me off. I walked into the school andddd... Stares. Soooo many stares. Everyone looked at my crutches, knee brace, and scars. I hung my head low and continued through the halls.

I got to Ms.Carter's class. "NOVA! Oh my god look at you!" She came over and gave me a hug. "How you doing? Better?" "Yes Ms.Carter, much." I gave her an assuring nod. "Well you missed a lot of work but you have plenty of time to catch up on it. You and Kagami both missed the same amount so you two can work together on it, ok!? And if your work from other classes is too much then I'll give you a few more days." She explained all the things I missed and gave me the work.

"You need help carrying anything." She asked. "No I'm al-" then I was interrupted. "Oh Kagami! Why don't you come help Nova!" I turned my head to see Kagami standing in the door way. I smiled so big I thought my face would rip apart. But he just stood there. His red locks covered his eyes and casting a shadow to his face. My smile was wiped from my face and replaced with an expression of concern. He walked slowly forward and bent down to my ear. My heart was about to beat out of my chest. He breathed in my ear very slowly and said something that I never expected...

"We aren't friends."

Then he turned around and walked away. As he opened the door and Bethany was standing there. He slung his arm around her and when the door closed they vanished. All hell broke lose and my emotions exploded like a volcano. Bethany had won yet again, she always does. I didn't say anything, I didn't scream, I went blank. So many feelings went off at once that I couldn't process any of them. Ms.Carter put her hand on my shoulder. "Why don't you sit this class out..." Her voice was quite and genital. I didn't even nod, I just sat down. I had gone numb.
