Chapter 22

Kagami's perspective~

Nova hadn't come back in a while. Whatever her and Ms.Carter are talking about must be important.

I let out a sigh "things sure are lonely without Nova here..."
As I said this Ms.Carter walked back into the exhibit, with no Nova.

"Hey Ms.Carter!" I called out to get her attention. "Where's Nova?" I walked up to her. She didn't look up at me at first, but when she did she showed a sad expression.
"Kagami... Nova isn't going to continue with us..." Her eyes held some guilt behind them.
"Wh-what do you mean? Where is she!? Is she ok!?" I started to raise my voice with each question. People stared but I didn't care, I needed to know if Nova was alright.
"... Kagami I'll be honest with you here. Nova left the museum and is being driven home. She's going through something very difficult right now and I don't know how she's going to handle it." There was nothing but silence between us. Nova was hurting again and I wasn't there to help her.
I made a mad dash for the door. I heard Ms.Carters voice in the distance but she didn't try any further to stop me. So I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. Whipping my phone out of my pocket I typed in Novas address to get directions. My phone showed that it would take 27 miles to get to Novas house. 'Damn it I can't run there.' I stopped and flailed my arms signaling that I needed a cab ride. I don't care how much money it is but I need to get to Nova as soon as possible.

A cab pulled over. He had a smile on his face "How can I help you?" His smile was whipped away when he say my sweaty, serious face. "I need to go to this address." I was speaking to quickly so I showed him the address on my phone. "Ok get in." "Thank you so much. Oh and I need to get there as fast as we can go." "I'll try my best."

I could tell he wanted to make conversation but I was to busy thinking. I'm sure my face looked like I had just seen somebody get murdered. Sweat was dripping down my face, my hands were clenched to the side of my head, and I was slightly shaking. "Can I ask what is troubling you, sir?" He smiled warmly and genuinely to try and calm me down. "I-I have a girlfriend, b-but something h-happened and I n-need to see her a-as soon as p-possible." I said with shaky, ragged breaths. "Ah I see." With that he slammed on the accelerator and speeded down a backroad. With in minutes we were in Novas neighborhood.

"Normally us cab drivers try and take the long routes so we can get more money. But you are a special case, the ride is free. Use that money for your girl." As he said that we pulled up to Novas house. "Thank you so much sir. If we meet again I'll pay you back." I swung open the door and ran up the driveway. The cab driver closed the door and drove off, leaving me at Novas door.

I knocked lightly and spoke "Nova? Are you there? It's me, Kagami. If you are inside please open up." I waited as patiently as possible for about 5 minutes. I heard a faint sound in the house, but it soon got louder and louder. It was crying. Without thinking I busted open the door with a kick. "NOVA ARE YOU IN HERE!?"

The sight I saw before my eyes was everything I never wanted to happen. Nova was on the floor shaking, panting, coughing, crying. She looked scared, so very scared. "Nova..." I walked slowly towards her and spoke softly. "Hey it's me. I wanna know how to help, can you tell me what's wrong." I leaned down more so that I could hug her. "K-ka-ga-mii..." "Yeah it's me I'm right here, don't worry." "Don't *pant* come near *cough* me." I held her tighter. "Don't say that. Everything is gonna be ok." I didn't know what was wrong but this seemed like a good thing to say. "I'm never leaving. I'll always be here for you, no matter what." She spoke threw her tears "My Uncle *sniff* and Aunt *wheeze* died in a plane *cough* explosion."

My eyelids flashed open but I didn't move anything else. I didnt want to startle her.
"First Lizzy... Now my Uncle and Aunt... You'll be next..."
I didn't know who Lizzy was but I figured this was a bad time to ask.
"I told you I'm not leaving." I said still hugging her.
"You might die next if you stay."
"I'm not dying. I'll never leave you. I promise."

With that silence fell upon us. I didn't speak and neither did Nova, but no words needed to be said. I just continued to hug her, stroke her brown locks, and hush her whimpers. We stayed like that for who knows how long. I ended up staying the night in that same position.
