"Y/n! Your friends are here!" My mom shouts from the house.
I was preparing a barbeque at my backyard. I turn to her and close my magazine. "Can you bring em over here, please?" I replied.
The back door opens and I see the boys barge in, including my boyfriend, Steve.
"Hi Y/n!" they say in unison. I walk up to them. "Welcome to my backyard guys!" I said.
"Wow, this is a really nice backyard. it's real big." Said Steve. He comes up to me and kisses me, putting his arm around my waist. In his other hand, he was holding chocolate cake.
"Oh nice, you brought cake!" I said, taking it from his hand, then I turn the cake around to see a piece missing. I shot up a confused look at him and realized there were crumbs and chocolate on his face.
He gave me a grin. "I kinda got hungry on the way..." He said.
I sighed, "It's okay. Cmon guys, sit down!" I lead them to the table I had set up. They all sat down and we're already messing around.
Darry walked up to me before he sat down with the others. "You need help with anything, Y/n?" He asked. "Thank you for asking. I do have a couple of meats in the cooler there next to the grill. Y'all can starting cookin' them up." I said, pointing towards the grill that I had already had heated up.
Darry gave me a nod and went right over to the grill. Right as he was getting everythig. ready, Dallas and Sodapop went over to help him out.
"You guys stay here, I'm gonna go grab some cokes from the fridge." I said. "Hey, we can help you out with that." Said Ponyboy while he and Johnny stood up from the table to help me take the cans of Coke from the fridge inside the house.
"Cokes? You ain't got beer or somethin'?" Asked Two-Bit.
"You gotta be crazy if you think I'm gonna have you drinking in my backyard. My momma's right there inside!" I replied.

it was almost the evening and everyone was already all over the place. Ponyboy and Johnny are already playing with my dog, Dallas is grilling more sausages for everyone while my cat was all over his leg.
"Hey man, you'll get your damn food in a bit, alright?" Says Dallas to... my cat. He's been acting like he understands him for a minute now.
Then there's Steve and Two-Bit trying to arm wrestle while Sodapop acts as the referee. That leaves Me and Darry with a can of coke in our hands and watching over everyone get busy with their own thing.
"So what major are you taking?" Darry asks, talking about college.
"Thinking either medicine or nursing. Probably gonna try both and see which one takes me." I said.
"Man, I wish I could go to college. Still gotta take care of two goofballs." He said. "Well, you're basic taking care of like- 1, 2, 3..." I counted all the boys.
"Six goofballs." I said and we both had a laugh. Then, Steve rolls into the conversation.
"Hiya. Is Dallas done with the sausages? I really want some more hotdogs." Said Steve, out of breath from his arm wrestle with Two-Bit.
"Pretty sure he's almost done. Did ya win?" I ask.
"Of course I did! Don't see me huffin and puffin? That's a sign of succes!" He cheered, making me and Darry giggle.
"Anyway, what were y'all chattin about? Looked real grown up." He asked.
"Hey, we were just umm... Talking about economics." I said, giving Darry a look to just go along with it. He nods, understanding the situation.
"Oh lord, don't you people have anything exciting to talk about? Like... Cars! Y'all both like cars right? Now that's a conversation I'll have!" He said.
Darry sighed in disappointment, shaking his head and I chuckled at Steve's comment.
"Well, y'all talk about 'grown up' stuff. I'll go get us some hot dogs." He said then leaves.
"Y/n, why didn't you just tell him we were talking about college?" Darry asked.
"Because, Steve hates it when I talk about it to pretty much anyone. He hates the fact of me leaving town." I said. "I think he's just scared to lose ya. He loves you very much, you know that right?" Said Darry. I didn't give him a reply as I was looking at Steve from afar.
"He can't stop blabbering about you, he's always super excited to see you." And with that, I blushed and smiled.
"I think you should just tell him bout' you going to college. He'll understand, eventually." He said.
That made me think about it. I sighed and glanced at Steve.
"Yeah I think I should." I murmured.

It was late, the street lights were on, everyone was full of food and we all gathered and talked. I thought this could be a good time for me to do what Darry told me to do. Confront Steve about me going to college.
"Steve can I ask you something?" I said. "Anything." He replied.
"Don't be mad, please?"
"I won't."
"Steve, you know I will be going to college, right?" I spat out. His face lit down as I looked at mine.
"Yeah." He said, looking away.
"Steve, you can't stay mad at the fact of me leaving. You know I will visit. It's not like I'm going to leave you forever." I said, putting my hand on his shoulder, wanting him to look at me.
"Look, when I am, I'll write ya letters, I can even call every week! And I promise I won't talk about boring stuff like Darry." I said, making him breathe out a laugh.
"I will come visit Tulsa anytime I get the chance." He smiles and looks at me.
"I'll write back to you too. I'm sorry I've been real upset about you leavin'. I just don't know how I'm gonna spend all the free time." He said. I smile and give him a kiss.
"You've got the boys and you know you can always come by my house and hang out with my dogs and my cat." I said.
"Also, please do take care of my mom. My dogs and cat too." I said. "Of course I will, sweetie." He replied.
"Thank you." I give him a tight hug. "I'll miss you everyday." I whisper in his ear, holding back tears.
"I'll miss you more." He whispers back before pulling away from the hug to give me another kiss.
Then, I look over on the other side of the table Steve and I were on and see Dallas, lying down on the grass. Next to my cat.
"Is Dallas still trying to talk to my cat?"
"I think he is talking to the cat." Said Steve.
