I laid down a beach towel on the grass and turned on the radio for some tunes. I would go to the beach but, I didn't have a ride. I just wanted to breathe in the beach air, feel the water between my toes and listen to the waves crashing into rocks and each other. I guess my backyard will have to do.
"Next up, 'I Got You' by James Brown!" The radio said.
I closed my eyes as the song played. I was laying on my back, absorbing rays from the sun. While that happens, I heard the engine of a truck and the sound of boys just screaming and shouting.
I opened my eyes, feeling disturbed. It was from the Curtis' House. The Curtis' and I were close. I go to the DX often and I'm friends with Ponyboy Curtis.
Ponyboy noticed me and waved. I waved back as he runs up to me.
"Hey Y/n. Whatcha doin out here?" He asks. "Just catching the sun since I can't go to the beach." I said, putting my sunglasses to my head.
" Well, why can't ya go? Looks like you got everything you need to go to a beach." He said.
"Yeah but, I got no ride."
"Well you're in great luck. Me and the guys are going to the beach right now. I don't think they'll mind if you came with us." He said.
"Really? Are you sure? What if y'all leave me there, stranded?" I said jokingly.
He laughs, "We wouldn't do that. I think we'd know if we lost a girl." He said. I look at his friends then back at him.
"Alright." I said. I stood up and took my beach towel with me. "Wait I'm gonna go get a change of clothes and another towel. And I have to ask my mom." I said. "Take your time, I'll tell my brother." He said. I nodded and ran in my house.

"Y/n! Right on time! C'mon, let me take those bags." Said Sodapop as he takes my bag and puts it in the trunk.
"Okay, Y/n you're going with me and Ponyboy in Darrys truck. my buddy, Steve's with us too." Said Sodapop.
"Oh, right! This is Steve by the way. He's my best friend." Said Sodapop, introducing his friend, Steve. I had seen Steve before at the gas station they both worked.
"Nice to meet ya, I'm Steve Randle." Said Steve, lending out his hand for me to shake. I shook it back with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too, Steve Randle. I'm Y/n" I replied.
"Well, let's get goin'!" Said Sodapop. "Alright. Thanks by the way. I really needed this trip." I said.
"Our pleasure. C'mon, let's get goin'" He said.

"Ahh, the beautiful beach air. Pretty relaxing huh?" Said Sodapop. I looked around. I was at the beach. It looked so peaceful.
"Hello?" Said Sodapop, waving his hand in front of my face. I snap back to reality and turn to him, face flushed.
"Oh yeah, sorry. I was just so mesmerized." I said. "The last time I went here was when I was 4." "Well, you could be going here more often now that you've got a ride." He said. I hugged him.
"Thank you so much. You restored my favorite memory."
"Don't sweat it! Now c'mon!" He said, grabbing my hand and dragging me to the water.
"Wait, I gotta put on sunscreen first--" he splashes me with water. "Oh, you are gettin' this." I took my shorts and t-shirt off and put them aside, leaving me with my swimsuit I had on previously. Sodapop takes his shirt off. We started splashing each other and everyone else joined.
At the end of the day, we watched the sunset. Laid down on the sand, listening to the ocean waves, and seeing the reflection of the sun on the water.
Sodapop and Ponyboy had just introduced me to their pals and I was already very comfortable with them.
I had a lot of fun today. I don't think if Ponyboy came over to greet me that morning, I wouldn't have known all these great people.
As we watch the sunset, I leaned my head on Ponyboys shoulder. He looked at me.
"Thanks for the ride again. Today was fun." I muttered.
"Our pleasure. You should just join all of our trips next time." He said.
"Maybe I will." I mumbled.
