chapter fifty ;; the sight of you
-timeskips ahead...

It was dark. There was no feeling anywhere. Somewhat like you were floating.

"Y/n?" Someone called out. Though, you could recognize that voice anywhere.

"Neji."

He let out a soft gasp from hearing your voice. "I'm sorry. There were a lot of ways I could've prevented this from happening and possibly have even saved you or the both of us." He closed his eyes. "Maybe if I was the first and only one to die, you'd probably still smile and that would be all that mattered. If I saw you smile one last time, I can enjoy my afterlife peacefully. Then again, who knows what happens in the afterlife? I can't even see you. We'd probably get separated away from each other forever. If I died first and saw someone else—"

"That's enough. Just stop already."

He opened his eyes, seeing you clearly. You had tears streaming down your face, unable to take any more of his negative words.

"I'm sorry. This is so frustrating. I'm taking this all out on you as well which you really don't need. Forgive me. I'm sure you want to cry even more, scream and pull your hair out. Well, I do. Even though I'm here with you as we speak, we're both still suffering. Not physically anymore, but mentally."

"Neji, are you realizing what you're saying?"

"I did it again. I'm sorry. At least I can see your pretty face forever. That's really all that matters to me now."

You sighed, wiping the tears from your face. Everything was pitch black, but you could see Neji perfectly and he could see you perfectly.

"I just want to go home. That's all. Imagine how Saya would feel.."

"You're right. She even said it herself. Without you, she has no reason to live."

"I don't remember her saying that."

"Well, she told me specifically."

"That means when she finds out she'll probably—"

"You dying can affect your team and clan so much. All of this will go downhill after a while.."

"You're right.. I don't know how things will happen but I guess we just have to see."

"Yeah."

Back in the actual world, your brother sat on his knees for three days. Even after the war ended and even after the Infinite Tsukuyomi began, he hid from it with his chakra alone. Still with that, he never went home after the war ended. He stayed on the battlefield full of dead bodies, emitting his chakra into you and Neji. His black chakra into you and his regular into Neji. He found a way to separate them both on the sides of his body, allowing him to do such a thing.

As the funeral happened, Toshiro stayed behind so he could cry as much as he wanted without anyone there to stop him. He couldn't believe it, but he had to accept it and move on. When everyone was finally home and Saya got told the news of you dying, she didn't hold back on breaking things, screaming, and crying. If you watched her do it, it'd hurt you more than dying. The same girl you knew would never be the same, even if you were there beside her.

"I feel like a loser for this, but if you let my death be in vain, I swear on my nonexistent life I will haunt you forever. I'm going with mom now, have fun."

You opened your eyes, looking around the battlefield full of dead bodies. Looking over, you saw Neji's chest slowly rising and falling. You could've sworn you were dead, but seeing your lifeless brother on the ground made everything so much clearer. Neji didn't seem to be waking up anytime soon. You picked him up, putting his arm around your neck. Of course, you didn't forget to take your brother's rinnegan. Which was disgusting to do, but you dealt with it.
