Lanz
Lanz sat at the table he prepared by the beach. There was a slight breeze, but dark clouds had loomed in the sky all day. He hoped they would hold their peace just a little while longer.
He smoothed out the linen, covering the small round table. The candles were lit, flames dancing with the salted breeze. The food was already placed on the table, covered in effort to stay warm. The light of the lanterns around grew as the sun began its slow fade into the horizon. The moon, already visible. He had hoped she'd be here to see the view. To share it with her.
He looked at his watch, then at the sunset. A little piece of him knew it was a long shot, but he was sure of what he saw. A kindred spirit. Maybe I read too much into it, he thought. It has been a long time.
Lanz sighed, then stood up, blowing out the candles. He looked out in the direction of town. In the direction she would be coming. Nothing. He turned out the lanterns and headed inside.
