Bridgett
Lanz walked Bridgett back to her apartment. They had come up with all kinds of ideas for the house along the way. Once they started talking about it, the ideas seemed to flow. She never gave any thought to what house she would ever live in, let alone design one from the ground up. Even though this house was for Lanz, it was fun to imagine.
They stopped in front of her building. Lanz looked behind him, then turned to Bridgett. "Well, get some rest. Will I see you tomorrow after your job?"
"Sure. I should get done by a decent time. It's only a part-time thing."
"What is it you do again? I don't think you ever mentioned it."
"I babysit." Bridgett had that lie handy, just in case. It didn't feel good to use it, not with Lanz.
"Well, good-night." Lanz lingered.
"Good-night." They were both caught in a lingering moment. Giving each other awkward smiles, Lanz made the first move.
"Well, bye." He said, waving at her. Then he walked back down the street.
Bridgett watched him go for a minute, then headed inside. Was he expecting to come inside? For me to make a move? She couldn't, even if that was what the moment was asking for. There was something that needed taking care of tonight. An obstacle that needed to be removed.
