Dante

There was a knock on the door. Dante knew only one person that was aware of him being in the new apartment. He opened the door and saw his driver, Morris, standing there.

"Leroy's at the house. Got something to show you." Morris said.

"I'll get my coat."

They drove to the townhouse, where Dante found Leroy waiting in the kitchen. He had helped himself to a muffin freshly made by Maria, the housekeeper. When he saw Dante, he set the muffin down and straightened up.

"I was told you had something for me." Dante said.

"You know how you asked me to stakeout the place your mom was found? Didn't see the killer, but I did come across a detective who had found this." He pulled out the small bag with the ring in it.

Dante reached out for it. At first, he was ready to yell at the guy for calling him out here to see a cheap prize ring, but then he recognized it. It had been years since he last thought of it. Was it the same one?

"Seemed important to the detective, so I figured I'd bring it to you." Leroy continued.

"You did well." Dante said, distant. His mind was busy searching his memories. "I'll be in the office." He turned and headed down the hall.

"Do you want me to still stakeout the place?" Leroy asked.

"No. I have what I need for now." He turned into a room off the main hallway.

Closing the door behind him, he sat down at the desk. He took the ring out and examined it closer, sitting back in the chair. There was a yellow diamond shape attached to it. He cupped the ring, closing his eyes, trying to recall what was the color of the one all those years ago. He opened his eyes...It was yellow. The one he picked out had a yellow diamond shape. It didn't make any sense, how was it here?

He twirled the ring around in his fingers, remembering the day he gave it away.
