Dante
Back in his hotel room, Dante opened up the door and picked up the Sunday Morning newspaper delivered to him. Checking the front page headline, he headed back in. He tossed it onto the table and reached for the cup of coffee his mother was handing him. She glanced down at the paper, tilting the top corner up. "That has to be your worst photo yet." She teased.
"The journalist from the restaurant must have used the photo he snapped of me as he made his getaway." He took a sip of his coffee and went to stand over by the window.
Watching the morning light spread over the city, watching streets brighten, he wondered where the night creatures went to hide during the day. Maybe it was more of a switch within people. The sun, snapping people out of their evil, just as does the full moon's effects wane, once it's gone. Do they realize the change, or is it a sleep walking, with the animal instincts taking the reins?
"It's just another piece of gossip. Once they have something new, they'll spend time on that and forget all about this one." His mother tried to assure her son's troubled mind, but she knew her words only bounced off the surface. She knew how to help herself get through rough times, but all the words seemed to fail her when it came to her son.
Walking over to him, she placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled. The only thing she knew to do. He looked over at her and smiled back, ever so brief, then returned to his pondering out the window.
