Angela

Angela was just about finished with her pre-examination of Mrs. Rossini. Her hand brushed against a pocket and felt something there. Looking around first, Angela checked it out.

It was a cheap gold ring. Probably not out of the ordinary since Mrs. Rossini did own the circus, but seeing the rest of her in more expensive clothing and jewelry, it made her think.

If it turned out to be important, then bringing it back to the lab wasn't an option. Ever since the meeting with her old professor, she could see eyes following her and watching her every move.

Taking a small plastic bag out of her kit, she placed the ring inside and closed it up. The ring was small, so she was able to encase it within her closed hand.

"Everything good to go, Ms. Decker?" One of the agents asked.

"Yes." She said, rising to her feet. "The body can be moved now." She stepped back a few paces, as technicians wrapped the body in a black bag. The agent watched too.

Angela tried to think what to do. It could be nothing, but what if it was something. Even if it was, I couldn't report it without putting her old professor in harm's way. She wished Mahone was here on the case. He would know what was wrong, without her having to say it.

The technicians carried the body away. The agent nodded at Angela, then followed them out. Everyone else was packing up. She couldn't stay in this spot any longer without raising suspicion. There was only one idea that sprang to mind and it would have to do.

Looking behind her, there was a fireplace filled with debris. She opened up her hand and let the bag fall. She glanced behind her. It landed on the edge of the ashes. She slid her foot to push it further in.

Looking around, everyone was heading out. The agent stopped at the door and looked her way. She smiled and walked toward him, playing it as cool as she could manage. Now, how to tell Mahone?
