The following morning, the Captain was pacing his office, hand on his hips, looking down at the ground. He was listening. Standing in front of the line of men standing before him, he rubbed a hand over his face and sighed.

"So let me get this straight. Not only did you continue on a case that was no longer yours, you went on a stakeout." He turned to Parker. "You got the crap beat out of you by a woman." Then he turned to Mahone. "You, I wish she beat the crap out of, teach you a lesson."

"She's got to be working for Vito, sir." Parker tried to put in.

The Captain gave him a hard look. "Why? Because she was sitting at a table with him? Then got scared when a man she didn't know, in a bad neighborhood, at night, was following her?"

"She wore a disguise. Tossed the wig when she got caught." Mahone added. "That's pretty suspicious for someone who has nothing to hide."

"This is 1971, Mahone! What woman in the ghetto isn't wearing a wig? She probably tossed it, because it ripped in the shuffle, or she was scared!" The Captain raised his voice. The officers in the station stopped to stare. "Get back to work!" He yelled at them, then slammed the door to his office. He looked up to the ceiling, shaking his head.

"Captain, this is on me. These men were just doing as told." Mahone stepped forward.

"I'm glad you think so, Mahone, because I'm holding you responsible. You're suspended. Hand over your badge and gun." He held his hand out, waiting.

"Look, Cap- " Stavo spoke up.

The Captain glared and pointed a finger at him as warning. "I don't want to hear it, Stavo, or you'll be joining Mahone." The room went silent. Mahone took out his badge and holstered gun, handing them over to the Captain. Then he watched as he walked over to his desk, placing them in a drawer.
