Angela
Angela placed her white coat on and turned around to face the body on her autopsy table. She was hesitant to walk over, knowing the decision she would face.
They warned her another body would come and she did nothing! What could she have done? Regardless what choice she made, someone would end up paying for it. Still, she knew a person's life was in danger and she did nothing about it. There's no excuse for that.
The door flung open to the lab, startling her. She gasped. Stavo smiled. He couldn't help it.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
"It's okay." She caught her breath. "I was just lost in my own thoughts."
He looked at the table. Good, she didn't start yet. He wasn't sure if he could ever get used to the sight of an opened body.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" She asked, grateful for the distraction, but afraid of wanting to blurt everything out to him.
"Just wanted to check in, see how you were doing. You said we'd see each other at work, so... here I am... seeing you at work." He laughed, feeling a wave of embarrassment. It was odd. He couldn't remember feeling this way, since grade school, when he had tried to ask Shelley out to the spring dance.
There was an awkward silence between them. Angela flushed, looking away. "Well, I better get back to work." I don't want you to go, but if you stay another minute, I'll end up spilling it all out.
"Sure, of course." Stavo rubbed the back of his neck. "I'll leave you to it." He backed up toward the door.
Don't leave! What am I thinking? Of course he needs to leave.
"Well, see-ya." Stavo waved and headed out, closing the door behind him.
She was alone, in her lab, with the body. She looked over again at Mrs. Rossini and knew what she had to do.
