A Cemetery Somewhere

Today there was no singing. There was no weeping, no trumpets playing, no last words said. Just footsteps. One set, walking among the dead. The footsteps made their way to the back, where the city could be viewed in the background. Standing in front of a tombstone, a single red rose is placed on top.

"Phase one done. Now onto phase two."

One last touch on the stone and the footsteps walk away. The stone is left alone again. A cold granite with a vivid red rose, freshly torn from its home. It's left to die and wither away, then to earth return as the flesh below the stone has done long ago. All that remains in the physical world are the memories and the name engraved: Lillian Turner.
