Matt's POV: As I walk around Firehouse 51, I sigh considering today was my last shift here before we start packing up and moving to the Bahamas. I just haven't broken the news to everybody else. Cleaning out my locker, I sighed and just looked at it one last time when I saw Severide walk over to me. "So, you are really leaving for good eh?" I sighed while turning to look at him and nodded. "Yeah, I have to. Gabby needs her brother and I need room to breathe." Severide was confused when I said that. "What's the real reason man?"
I then looked at him and was about to say something when Gabby walked in. "Hey, glad you come come." Gabby smiled when I said that. "I was at my mom's place last night remember? The firehouse is on the way back." I nodded and agreed with her before going to wrap my arm around her. Stepping close to me, Gabby went to kiss me softly. "You can tell him." I nodded and smiled at her. "The real reason I am quitting is because we are expecting triplets." Severide then stared at us. "Woah! Wait, wouldn't that mean you have to say?"
I sighed and looked at him. "Not in our case. We need more family around us so...we are going to be moving to the Bahamas. I convinced Gabby it was the better option since her brother was there. She wanted to go to Puerto Rico." Gabby nodded and agreed. "You already talk to Chief?" That's when I heard Chief come in and look at her. "Oh, he told me Gabby. You are having triplets...just wow." Gabby smiled as she turned around and went to hug him. "I need my brother's help in this. That's why we're leaving. If he came back..."
I then went to wrap my arm around her and stopped her, kissing her head. "Babe, just relax. This is going to be the best option for us. Healthcare and living is cheaper in the Bahamas. Is Antonio at the apartment still?" Gabby nodded when I asked her. "Yeah, he has stopped me from helping all day. I am waiting for you to get back so I can help." I sighed when she said that. "You are not helping babe. You are 8 weeks pregnant with triplets, you are benched." Gabby sighed and just looked at me when she intertwined our fingers. "Okay, maybe the pillows."
She then slapped me and wasn't happy. "Watch it or I will make you get the surgery after I give birth, then you will have to..." I then looked at her. "Babe, that is a horrible threat. You are going to get overwhelmed with three kids. Plus, I would never do that to you. But yes, we are done having kids after this." Chief nodded and agreed with me. "Just to let you know, I spoke to the CFD and they have decided to let you retire so that you can continue to have benefits for the rest of your life." I smiled when he said that. "Thanks Chief, that helps a lot."
Severide smirked when he said that. "Also means that I am now next in line to be Chief here." I then sighed when he said that. "I can always come out of retirement if we ever move back." Gabby then looked at me. "Not happening. We are not moving back here when we are going to be volunteering down there. That is going to be my full-time job again. We are only going to the Bahamas until the kids are born. Once I am cleared and they are 6 months old, we are moving to Puerto Rico so I can volunteer again." I nodded and agreed with her.
Looking at chief, I went to hug him and smiled. "It was an honor to serve under you Chief." Chief smiled when I said that and hugged him. "You want me to tell everybody that you are leaving?" I then shook my head. "I've already told them all individually one-on-one. I just need to head home with all my stuff. Oh and I also put a letter of recommendation on your desk for the next Captain." I then turned to look at Severide and smiled at him. "There are 2 letters. Boden, you talk to either Severide or Hermann. First pick gets my recommendation."
They both nodded and agreed. "Listen, I need to get going. We will send pictures and let you know when the kids are born." They both agreed and nodded. "Oh and remember, Hermann is my replacement on Truck! Kidd on Engine!" They both agreed and smiled as me and Gabby walked away to head home. "You want to visit the memorial one last time?" Gabby shook her head. "Nope, I am going to bed. I didn't sleep that well last night." I was concerned when she said that. "Then why did you come in?" Gabby then sighed.
"I wanted to visit one last time. Who knows when we are going to be back?" I nodded and understood while wrapping my arm around her. Kissing her head, I smiled as we walked out of Firehouse 51 for the last time before our move to the Bahamas in the next couple weeks. Walking out to the car together, I smiled at Gabby and just rubbed her back the entire time. "You driving or am I?" Gabby then looked at me. "You drive, I am tired. Probably safer." I agreed and nodded as I went to put my bag in the back seat.
Helping Gabby into my car, I smiled when she sat down. Bending down, I went to kiss her softly. "Next stop, bed." Gabby laughed and agreed with me as she kissed me slowly. "I love you. Maybe we can take the morning to rest and pack this afternoon?" I bit my lip. "We'll see. We have to be out by the end of the month." Gabby nodded and understood as I gave her one last kiss before running around the car and going to get in so that I could drive her home.
