Dawsey: Starting a Family Part 2

Chapter 198

Gabby's POV: After taking the past hour to relax in bed, I finished putting Louie down for another nap before coming downstairs to see Matt sitting in the living room. I asked him for a bit of alone time so that my mind wasn't racing. I just needed a bit of time to rest in bed without him. Not that I don't love him and need his help at times....it's just, sometimes I need to rest. Coming in, I walked in to see Matt putting something together. "What's that?" Turning to look at me, Matt got up and walked over to me. "The baby chairs. I thought I would get them set up for when we bring these three homes." Stepping close to me, Matt wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead. "How are you doing?" I sighed when he asked me that. "I am still a little worried."

Matt nodded when I said that. "Here, come sit down on the couch and we can talk while I keep working. That's what you should be doing right now. I am guessing that Louie was tired again?" I nodded when he asked me that. "Yeah...and I just needed time to think while being in the same room as you." Matt nodded when I said that before going to grab the blanket for me and giving it to me. "Thanks." Matt nodded when I said that before going sit down next to me and looking at me. "How are you feeling after what you talked to me about? You change on that or..." I sighed when he said that. "I guess I just overreacted." Matt nodded when I said that and then went to kiss me softly. "Just remember, Louie's name is Louie Casey...not Thompson, not Keys...Casey."

I nodded when he said that before looking at him as he got closer to me. He then went to put his hand on my neck and just kissed me softly. "And you know that I am always here for you...no matter what. Just remember that okay Gabby?" I nodded when he said that before going to grab his hand. "Do you need to work on that right now or..." Matt then shook his head. "Hey, of course I don't. You need me to hold you right now?" I nodded when he asked me that. "Honestly, I think that might help a bit. What might help more is you sitting on the couch with me and holding me." Matt smiled when I said that and nodded as he got onto the couch with me and then moved under the covers just like me. Feeling him wrap his arm around me, I smiled when he kissed my shoulder while holding me close.

"I guess the part where Louie is ours is still sinking it. Either that or it's pushing against my hormones which is refusing to allow me to really come to that realization." Matt nodded when I said that. "You have no regrets doing this now right? Like when we were also pregnant?" Matt shook his head when I asked him that and was seemingly shocked that I would even ask him that. "Hey, of course not...I feel like this was faith Gabby. I mean, what are the odds that we get everything we have ever wanted in life within a 4 month span? We get pregnant and we get Louie back as not just our foster son...but our legal son." Matt then whispered to me. "Are those fears that you had when we first got pregnant resurfacing now that we have Louie again?"

I then bit my lip while holding his hand. "The ones about how you wanted to have a child of our own that can't be taken away." I nodded when he said that. "I am starting to realize that maybe you agreeing to do this only after it was official was definitely the right move. But, I can't help but wonder if we were just acting on adrenaline. I mean yes, you had reservations but...I was the one that pushed. Did I do it again Matt? Did I put you in a situation like the first time I tried to adopt Louie where I told you that we were a package deal...it's either me and Louie or it's neither of us?" Matt shook my head when I said that. "No, not at all. You know that I was just as devastated when we lost Louie. You remember that day in Tina's office?" I smiled at the thought.

Flashback to Some Make it, Some Don't 
NARRATOR'S POV: Looking at Louie's DCFS Case Manager Tina in her office at DCFS, Gabby spoke to her in disbelief about the events that happened in the past few weeks. Most importantly the events that happened on her and Matt's wedding night. "The paperwork on Louie said that there was no known father. So where did this Andre Keys come home?" Tina just looked at them, seemingly just as much in the dark as they were on. "I don't know any more than you do. He must've gone through outside channels to track you down." 

Matt just stared at her in disbelief when she said that. "Isn't all that information confidential?" Tina nodded in agreement when he said that. "Yes. I have no idea how he got your names."  Matt was shocked and just looked at Tina, completely surprised when she said that. "Well, that's a pretty serious breach." Tina was offended when Matt said that and automatically defended her office. "I doubt it had anything to do with DCFS." However, Matt wasn't backing down. "DCFS's job is to protect these kids. After everything Louie's been through we're just..." Gabby then went to calm him down, putting her hand on his arm. "Baby." 

End of Flashback - Back to present time:
Gabby's POV - Part 2: Thinking back on that day, I just smiled because that was the day I truly realized that me and Matt were both in this together. He was just as furious as I was that someone found us and tried to take Louie away from us. "You know, I hate to say this but...that speech you gave was kind of a turn on." Matt smiled when I said that and nodded. Moving his hand to my leg, Matt then went to kiss me softly and just held me close to him. "Not too far, remember...we aren't alone here anymore." Matt smiled when I said that and nodded as he held me close while kissing me slowly. "Tonight, we are doing a date night down here...just us."

I then leaned back and looked at him when he said that. "What are we doing with Louie? I am not sure that I am comfortable with asking someone...even my brother to watch him during COVID." Matt nodded when I said that. "I never said anything about someone watching him. We can wait until after he goes to bed or...he can be with us. Gabby, I think we need to get out of the room more. You get in your head when we are sitting up there and that's not good when you're pregnant." Putting his hand on my stomach, Matt just smiled at me. "I love you...you know that right?" Matt nodded and smiled when I said that. 

Just holding each other close as we sat on the couch, me and Matt didn't have to talk to just enjoy each other's company. Being held by him was exactly what I needed right now because I was in my head too much and just had to slow down. Once I was able to do that, I was able to relax and actually fell asleep while laying down on the couch. And I actually had a good rest.
