Dawsey: Starting a Family Part 2

Chapter 187

Matt's POV: After going to check on Louie, I smiled when I saw him holding a book with Gabby. "You know, you could always go read to him in bed instead of sitting in here on the spare bed we have in here." Gabby then looked at me and smiled. "Sure, because you didn't put this in here on purpose too." I smiled when she said that. "Hey, if I can facilitate my gorgeous pregnant wife being comfortable somewhere near me...I am going to do just that." Walking over to her, I went to lean over her and then kissed her softly. That's when Louie pushed my face away. "Hey!" 

Louie then looked at me. "My time with mommy." I nodded and agreed with him before going to sit down at my desk. "I swear, he is just adorable." Gabby nodded and agreed with me as she held him close. "Remind me why you got a section in here too?" I then smiled at her while going to login in again (the account locks after 2 minutes of inactivity). "Because that way, you can have a spot to rest while I work. And Louie can just relax there while I watch him." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I got a call from Chicago Med. I was confused but went to answer.

"Matthew Casey." The doctor then spoke to me. "Hi Captain Casey, this is Dr. Hannah Asher." I then went to look at Gabby. "Shit, please don't tell me that was today." Gabby then looked at me. "Now, please don't tell me that we had an OB/GYN appointment today." Dr. Asher then spoke to me. "No, I am just calling to let you know about how our appointment on Saturday will go." I agreed and then went to put her on speakerphone. "Dr. Asher, you are on speakerphone with me and Gabby." She agreed with I said that. "Hi Gabby, sorry for the scare."

Gabby laughed but agreed with her. "Yeah, I was worried we missed an appointment. I am not going to ever miss those. I want to make sure this goes as well as possible." She agreed with Gabby when she said that. "Of course, we all want that. Now listen, because of COVID...we are calling to ask if we can postpone your appointment for 2 weeks. We are just starting and it's busy. I am going to be helping in the ER actually." Turning to look at Gabby, I got nervous. "I think that we can skip one Matt. Or would you rather we not skip any of them?"

I bit my lip. "Babe, if this was a normal pregnancy...I wouldn't sweat it. But, it's a triplet pregnancy. Pregnancies are high risk but...with all the stress you are under, I just feel better that we get you checked on a regular basis. Do you understand?" Gabby nodded and then smiled at Louie. Going back to talk to Dr. Asher, I hoped she would understand. "Listen Dr. Asher, as much as I understand that you are needed to help others...can I be a bit selfish and want to make sure we are okay as well? With the recent stress we've been through, I am just a bit more worried."

Gabby then looked at me and understood now why exactly I really wanted her to get an appointment, it's because we have both been worrying a lot about the COVID pandemic. "Dr. Asher, I think that Matt has a point. I believe that I shouldn't skip appointments. I have been stressed most of the pregnancy and we now have a 22-month old son that we recently adopted." Dr. Asher seemed surprised by that. "Oh congratulations."  Gabby then looked at Louie and smiled at him. "Louie, you want to say hi to Dr. Asher? She's mommy's doctor for the babies."

Louie then went to speak to her. "Hi Dr. Asher." Dr. Asher laughed when he said that. "God, he sounds adorable. But listen, we will figure something out. Maybe I can speak to a local doctor and see if I can take you in at a clinic instead of at the hospital. How does that sound?" I thought about it and looked at Gabby. "I think that's the best case scenario. Oh and can you maybe look into pediatricians for us? We don't have one for our son yet." She agreed with me. "Of course Captain. Listen, I will try and find us a place where we can have the appointment and keep you posted. Maybe we can delay a day so that I can make sure that I have enough time?"

I nodded and agreed with her. "Sounds good Dr. Asher. Now, I am in the middle of my shift. So, we will see you Sunday morning at 10." Dr. Asher agreed and went to hang up. Turning to look at Gabby and smiled at her. I then went to roll over to her and grabbed her hand. "How you feeling at 15 weeks pregnant. Just curious?" Gabby then smiled at me when I asked that. "Good. But listen, I am getting bored and I might go see if Stella wants to come over. They're off right?" I nodded when she said that. "You think that's a good idea with COVID though?" Gabby sighed when I said that. "Probably not. Then I am just going to stay here. Let's get this case done."

I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "I will take a breath after. I am sure that they know we are not going to work all the time considering the circumstances." Gabby smiled when I said that. "Maybe you can get some paint and we can start on the nursery over there. Or wait, we already did it right?" I looked at her and nodded. "We already have it done babe. Just relax, take a breath and just sit there. I like looking at my gorgeous wife. Maybe after lunch, we can take a break and go for a walk outside with Louie. How does that sound?" 

Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that before going to go back on her computer so that she could help me do my job. Meanwhile, I sent an e-mail to my (virtual) supervisor to ask if it would be okay if I took Louie to the park before his nap. Maybe then, he can relax and Gabby can take a nap too. But one of the benefits I liked the most of this job was that it was a 9-to-5 job...that meant I never had to work after supper anymore. God, that's going to be amazing.
