Chapter 214

Matt's POV: After formally accepting my position of Battalion Chief at Firehouse 51, I made my way downstairs to see Severide and Stella there in their black outfits. I had a dark suit on and that was the best I could do. I didn't find a clean, black suit. Severide then looked at me. "Glad to see you are following Boden's wishes." I nodded and agreed with him. "Amongst others." I then looked at him and Stella before going to shake his hand. "I want to tell you both something actually. They are going to make an announcement at the post-Funeral reception at the house.

Gabby then came down wearing her dress. Turning to look at her, I realized just how tight her black dress was. "Okay, hold a minute. I just realized how tight that dress on was my wife." Gabby then walked over to me and smiled. "Thought you might like seeing the bump today." I then went to wrap my arm around her and then went to kiss her softly. Putting my hand on her stomach, I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I love seeing this gorgeous baby bump of yours." Severide then looked at me when I said that. "God, you are so disgusting sometimes." I then smirked.

"Careful how you talk about your new boss Lieutenant." Severide then stared at me. "What?" I then nodded and smiled. "I called Grissom while I was up there. I already gave him my formal acceptance. I just have to give him the letter at the funeral. We are going to be making the announcement at the post-funeral reception at Firehouse 51. He's also going to introduce me as Chief Matthew Casey when I give the eulogy at the funeral." Antonio then came to walk over to me when he heard that. Seeing him in a suit, I smiled. "God, my brother a chief." I smiled.

Going to hug him, I then went to hold him close. "You are coming today?" Antonio nodded and smiled. "Sit with us okay? You are family. After all, your brother-in-law is Firehouse 51's chief." Antonio smiled when I said that. "Wait, aren't you a pallbearer too?" I nodded and smiled. "Me and Severide are at the front." That's when I heard my amazing mother-in-law call for breakfast. "Matt, come eat breakfast." Walking over to Camila, I smiled at her. "Thank you so much for watching Louie. We need to be there today." I then went to kiss her cheek and smiled.

Camila then turned to look at me. "No, come here. Congratulations Matthew. Or should I say, Chief Casey." I then went to hug her and smiled. "Just one more step in my dream coming true." Gabby then smiled when I said that. "I ever tell you my dream Severide?" Severide nodded. "Remember, I used to live with you. By the way, I expect to be the next Captain...not Hermann." I then looked at him. "I am going to give you a meritorious promotion when you earn it. And right now, you are not getting squat. I need to be much tougher on you at work." Severide nodded.

Camila then looked at me again. "Now listen, I know you are all due at the Church soon. So, you need to get eating. Severide, you eat too." I nodded and agreed as I went to grab some plates for me and Gabby. "Oh mom, you make sure he goes down for his naps okay?" Camila nodded and agreed. "I promise Gabby." I then looked at Severide. "Oh, I just remembered that we are doing a procession to the church with him on the truck aren't we?" Severide shook his head. "Cancelled due to COVID. We are just doing church service and then reception at firehouse." I nodded.

"By the way, is Cruz still doing his wedding on the 11th?" Severide sighed. "They can't cancel. They already paid extra so that they don't loose the church because of COVID. They have his family coming in already. Some are driving from Guatemala." I nodded when he said that. "Okay then, I am going to be there as a groomsman with Gabby as my bridesmaid." Gabby then shook her head. "About that, I already talked to Cruz and Sylvie is going to be your partner. Sorry but, it's getting harder to walk. And I haven't talked to the doctor about bedrest."

I then looked at her. "Shit, are you going to be able to come to work with me if you are on bedrest?" Gabby then nodded while walking up to me. She then wrapped her arm around me and kissed me softly. "There is nowhere I would rather be. Plus, that way you can work until the very end of my pregnancy. I know you are going to take time off before but, if I am there you can relax more." I nodded and agreed with her. "Listen, we need to eat. Then...we need to head to the church. Severide you need to drive yourself."

Severide was confused when I said that. "Why? We are going to the same place." I then sighed. "But, we might not leave at the same time. If Gabby gets tired at the reception, I am going to bring her home early." Gabby nodded when I said that before going to grab some food. "Come one, we need to eat then we are leaving." I smiled and agreed with her as I prepared to get some food to eat so that we could go to Boden's funeral.
