Dawsey: Starting a Family Part 2

Back in present time, with Matt as he makes breakfast:
Matt's POV: As I stand in the kitchen while making breakfast, I sigh considering the dream I just had last night was throwing everything into a twist. I thought our plan was set for the future. We were thinking of moving to the Bahamas and Puerto Rico for the rest our lives. But what if my dream was what was really going to happen. Would Gabby be okay with that? Heck, I am still scratching my head at the idea of my daughter being a candidate at my Firehouse 51. I mean, would they really rehire me to be chief. God, Severide is going to hate this.

That's when I heard him come out. "You're up early." I then looked at him and sighed. "Had a dream. It was really weird but totally out of the blue. It was completely opposite of what we have planned for the future." Severide was confused when I said that, going to sit at the bar. "Want to share?" I then sighed. "You might not like it though." He laughed. "Try me." I then smiled at him. "Okay, so this is set 18 years into the future and you are going to just have to remember that this is just a dream and it might not happen." Severide nodded and agreed. "Try me."

"I was the Chief of Firehouse 51, my namesake Matt, Jr. was the candidate at Firehouse 90 under Patterson, my daughter Emma was the candidate at Firehouse 51 and our other son Andy was a paramedic on Ambo 61 with Gabby as his paramedic-in-chief." That's when I heard Gabby come out of our room. "Oh god, that's why you got up so early isn't it...you had a dream that is making you change your mind." I sighed when Gabby said that. "How you feeling?" Gabby then walked over to me. "Good." Walking up to me, Gabby put her hands on my chest and kissed me.

"Now, about this dream. Are you rethinking going to the Bahamas?" I sighed when she said that and went to rub her arm. "I hate to say that I am but...god it was so tempting. The idea of being Chief, our kids all being public servants in the CFD. I mean, be honest babe...you would love that for me." Gabby sighed and nodded. "I would. That's the hard part. And the idea of our kids following in our footsteps is really tempting. But, our son as a paramedic...that was a bit odd." I nodded. "Hey, our daughter would be just like her mom. She wanted to be a firefighter."

Gabby smiled when I said that. "Here's the thing then...we need to make that decision. Are we going to move or do you need to go talk to Chief and get back on as Captain? However, I do not want you running into fires anymore. You'll have to figure that one out with him. Maybe you can stand out there with him and make orders." I thought about it and nodded when she said that. "I like that idea honestly. But, we need to talk about it first. Maybe after breakfast...we can go talk to Boden and see if this would even be possible to take back my resignation?"

Gabby then bit her lip. "What about all the packing we did?" Severide then looked at us both. "Guys, forget about that. You guys need to do what's best for the two of you. If you want to go to the Bahamas and be with Antonio...then do that. But, if you want to be here and work at the CFD...then you need to talk to Boden before shift tomorrow. We are going to want you back right away." I then sighed and looked at him. "Antonio is going to kill me for even thinking about this." Gabby then looked at me. "Hey, my brother will understand. We'll tell him about the dream."

I nodded and agreed with her, going to kiss her head. "I am going to call Boden and see if it's too late to take back my resignation. If it is, then the problem is already solved." We all agreed when I said that but before I left, Gabby looked at me. "Severide, can you take over breakfast? I want to talk to Matt before he calls." Severide nodded and agreed with Gabby. "Sure thing." I then looked at her and smiled. "Our bedroom?" Gabby nodded when I said that before grabbing my hand so that we can go talk in our bedroom and maybe even call Antonio.
