Matt's POV - Part 1: Once we finished grocery shopping and making our way to Gabby's mom's place, I smiled as we decided to go in for a bit. We haven't seen her since we told her and I already knew that she was going to want to talk to Gabby. And that was the exact reason why we dropped all of our groceries off at home before we came here to get Louie. Gabby didn't like the idea but...I convinced her it was a good idea. Anyways, she needed her mom right now. Taking off my jacket, I smiled when I saw Louie run over to us at the door. "Hey buddy." Louie then ran up to me. "Daddy!" I smiled when I went to wrap my arms around him and then picked him up. "Hey buddy, you have fun with your abuela." Gabby then looked at me. "Matt, it's grandma for him."

I nodded when she said that when I heard Camila. "Oh, let him choose what he wants to call me. And come here sweetie." Camila then went to hug Gabby. "I don't care about COVID...you need a hug from your mom right now." Gabby nodded when she said that. "Yeah, I do." Gabby then looked at me and smiled. "You want to stay for a bit?" I nodded and smiled. "Hey Louie, how about you show me your bedroom here at grandma's house? I am sure it isn't as cool as the bedroom I made you." I then looked at Gabby. "I am going to tell him okay babe?" Gabby then looked at me when I said that. "No Matt, I want to do it together at home okay? He is going to want to hug me when he hears the sad news." I nodded and agreed. "Of course, sorry."

Louie then looked at me and went to ask. "Daddy, what sad news? Did someone else in my family die? I mean my old daddy's family?" I then looked at him. "Hey bud, they are still your family okay? Don't ever say old family...they are always going to be your family because they love you. They just knew you were better off with me and mommy." He nodded when I said that. I then went to kiss his forehead while I held him close. "Listen, me and mommy are going to tell you the news when we are at home okay? But how about you show me your bedroom here? I bet it's not as good as the one you have a home right bud?" Louie then bit his lip. "I love them both." I then went to tickle him and carried him upstairs. "C'mon, let's go see your bedroom okay?"

Gabby's POV: Once Matt went upstairs with Louie, I smiled at my mom because I knew she wanted to talk to me. Walking away to the living room/kitchen, I just sighed when my mom stopped me. "Here, come here honey." Turning to look at her, I went to hug her and then sighed. "How are you feeling sweetie? And don't lie to me. We both know that you are hurting right now." I nodded when she said that. "Can we go sit on the couch together?" My mom nodded when I asked her that. "Of course mija." Walking away to go sit on her couch, I smiled when I saw that Louie's blanket was down here. "Seems like Louie slept down here with you last night." She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, he fell asleep while we were watching a movie together."

I smiled when she said that. "Yeah, he does that sometimes." My mom nodded as we sat together. "Now, be honest with me mija...how are you doing? It must be hard right now." I sighed and nodded. "Yeah, the hardest part is putting my hand on my stomach and knowing that there is now an empty space in the place where I once carried a baby. That's probably the hardest part of me dealing with this right now." My mom nodded when I said that. "Honestly, I don't think I could ever go through this which such grace and dignity as you are Gabby. How are you doing it?" I sighed and looked at her. "I am just putting on foot in front of the other. But honestly, I think this is good for us. We were going to struggle with 4 kids anyways. Not that I regret adopting Louie but...I hate saying that this might be a blessing in disguise for me and Matt."

My mom nodded when I said that. "Listen, you guys have just had a horrible 48 hours. I mean, yesterday you had the funeral and then you lost your baby last night." I nodded when she said that. "And then not tomorrow but the day after...it's Matt's first day as Battalion Chief." My mom sighed. "You sure that you don't want him to delay his start by a bit Gabby? I am sure that Matt would do it if you asked him to." I nodded when she said that. "Believe me, he offered to do the same thing but...I'll be fine." My mom got concerned when I said that. "Gabby, you sure?" I nodded. "If you keep pushing...we are leaving. I am fine mom." My mom then stared at me and sighed. "Gabriela, I am trying to get you to be honest with yourself. I can see you are hurting."

Matt's POV - Part 2: Coming downstairs after going to see the room that Camila set up for Louie, I walked in with him in my arms overhearing the word hurting. But, I could also see that Gabby was getting a little bit frustrated with her mom. "Everything okay down here?" Gabby then turned to look at me and sighed. "Yeah, everything is great." She then got up and walked over to me and Louie. "Hey big man, you have fun with grandma?" Louie nodded and smiled. "I sorry about what happened to you mama." Gabby nodded and smiled when he said that. "Thanks buddy but, mommy's okay." Gabby then looked at me, giving me a signal not to push her.

I then sighed. "Camila, what did you do?" Camila then looked at me. "You shouldn't be working yet Matt. Your wife just...." I then sighed and shook my head. "Listen Gabby, how about you take Louie out to the van. Wave bye to your grandma buddy." Louie nodded before waving to Camila. I then went to look at Gabby and went to kiss her softly. "I will be right out." Gabby nodded and looked at her mom. "Talk another time mom." Gabby then went to walk out of her mom's place to go sit in the van. Meanwhile, I turned around to look at her and sighed. "Camila, can you please not push. I already talked to her and she said it was fine. She's coming to work with me."

Camila then sighed and looked at me. "How are you doing Matt?" I sighed and looked at her. "I am grieving on my own schedule....we both are. We are also considering this a bit of a blessing. Sure, we wanted all 3 of them but we also agreed it would've been too much now that we have Louie. Plus Camila, it just happened. Can you please not push her right now? Then, she'll clam up and I won't even be able to talk to her....and right now, I don't need that when my first shift as Battalion Chief is Tuesday." Camila nodded when I Said that. "Of course, I'm sorry. Good luck." I nodded when she said that before going to hug her. "Thanks again for your help."

Going to grab Louie's bag that I brought downstairs from Louie's room, I took one last deep breath before making my way out to the van so that we could head home.
