Trigger Warning:
- description of weeping girl
_________________________________________________________
There is a desolate landscape.
Dead flowers and vines litter the ground.
The ground looks as though it's covered in ash.
There is no sun, moon, or star.
There is no light, but I can see everything clearly.
I am lucid dreaming, I realize.
Oh great! Just the thing I need on the night before an exam.
My lucid dreams are wild. Very wild. And I really don't need to deal with this chaos tonight. I will wake up in the morning feeling irritated with my brain.
Good job, brain. Instead of giving me sweet dreams of victory and excitement, you give me this nonsense. It does absolutely nothing to help my self-confidence.
I don't know how to wake myself up from lucid dreams, so I let them run their course. This time is no different.
I traverse the dead earth.
Such a dull setting, I can't help but think.
There seems to be no end to this miserable place. It's infinite. I begin to lose interest when all of the sudden I hear the faint sound of weeping. A woman weeping. With my interest piqued, I follow the sound of the weeping. It comes from behind me. I just came from behind! Shouldn't I have heard the sound then? Wait, this is a dream. Stop looking for logic in a dream.
As I walk back to where I came from, I notice the landscape has changed. There are boulders the size of barrels dispersed throughout, and a weak breeze is blowing. Ash, petals, and leaves glide in the breeze. I come across a clearing and there I see her. The woman. No, it's a girl.
She has a gradient of wavy black and white hair, with black at the roots and white at the ends. It is so long it touches the ground. She wears nothing. Not even shoes. Her knees are to her chest and she buries her face in her arms as she weeps.
I debate approaching her. She seems harmless but what if she turns out to be something like that ghost of a girl who crawls out of a TV. What if she attacks me? I don't want my dream to turn into a nightmare. My dream is depressing enough. Whatever. I'm going to risk it. Let's get this dream over with.
I approach the girl, and she hears my footsteps. She stops weeping and peeks out from her arms at me. I stop for a moment.
Her eyes. Her eyes look like liquid silver. An ocean of melted silver. They're ... they're beautiful.
I snap out of my reverie and realize she's looking at me with terror in her eyes. She thinks I'm going to hurt her. Oh God, I wasn't expecting this reaction from a dream girl.
I decide to stay where I am, just a meter away from her, and crouch down to her level, raising my hands.
"I don't mean any harm. I just heard some crying and came to investigate," I try to reassure her.
She says nothing. She continues to stare at me with those terrified, silver eyes.
"I'm lucid dreaming right now. You are part of my dream. And I want to know why I am dreaming this particular dream."
Her eyes widen a little. She jumps up and sprints away from me.
"Wait!" I chase after her. "I just want to know!"
But by then she's run too far for me to catch up. Curse dream beings and their unnatural abilities! Yes, in a world full of supernatural abilities, I am calling her speed ability unnatural.
As soon as she's out of sight my dream ends.
I wake up instantly and sit upright in my bed. I'm panting hard as if I ran the mile run. I shouldn't be panting after waking up from a dream. This wasn't even a nightmare.
I try falling asleep again. But I can't.
I am plagued by the thoughts of that girl and her liquid silver eyes.
