A New Start

Chapter 20: There Were More

I woke up before it was even daylight outside. I wondered if anyone was awake? Savannah was even sound asleep which wasn't normal. I got up and walked to the bathroom trying not to wake the others. Once I got in there I shut the door quitetly and splashed water on my face. I looked up and saw a person standing behind. I turned around in a hurry and put my hand on my chest. "Jesus Christ Emalea, I didn't mean to scare you." Hope said. I was dizzy now. "No, you're fine. I just didn't expect someone to come in this late... Or early" I said. "Haha, well I couldn't sleep and saw you go in here. I thought something was wrong and I wanted to see if you were okay. So like... Is you okay?" She said with a weird accent. "Haha, yeah I am fine. I just woke up and wanted to splash some water on my face." I replied. "Hey guys" Savannah said sneaking in. "I saw you guys come in. Is there a party?" She said waving her hands in the air. We all laughed and walked back out. We laid down and none of us fell asleep so we just talk quitely about things. The sun was finally coming. "You guys are up?" Cody said walking in seeing us laughing uncontrollably on the bleachers. "We couldn't sleep." Hope said. "So now we are here." Savannah finished for Hope. "I see." Cody said. "So how did it go with Luther?" I said with a wink to Hope. "It was fine and he seem really nice. I trust him. I don't know about you guys, but I do." She said. "I'll just take your word for it." I said. "Cody! Theres someone outside." Beau said. "Male or female?" Cody asked. He was calm. "Does it ma-" Beau got cut of. "Male or female?" Cody said again. "Its a boy" Beau finished. "You guys stay here. I'll be back." He said. He got up and ran down the bleachers. We heard the door slam shut and a few mumbled words. "So you guys want to do something stupid and go check what's happening?" Hope said. Me and Savannah looked at each other. We shrugged. "Why not?" Savannah said. We got up and walked down the bleachers. We pressed up against the door and heard what they were saying. "Who are?" Cody said. No answer. "Look, you can either tell us who you are and not ge-" Beau got cut off again. "Nathan. My name is Nathan." He said. My eyes widened. "Hope, Nathan!" I whispered. We all opened the doors and Hope ran to Nathan. "I'm sorry I left like that. I just couldn't be there any longer." She said releasing from the hug. "Its okay. I understand." He said. "How did you find us?" I said. "I saw you guys the night you left. I followed, but stayed behind. The day that the girl got bit was the day I was here." He said. "You.. You got Gracie killed." Cody said. "No, the zombies were there before I got there. I tried helping her, but I was to late. I ran in fear and I came back today. I knew they were here and I had to see them again." Nathan said. His voice was shakey. "What about John. Does he know?" Hope asked. "Like I said, I left when you guys did. I know nothing." He said. "So you guys trust this guy?" Beau said. "I have known Nathan since this thing started." Hope said. "Okay. I trust him then." Cody said. "Cody, tell everybody breakfast is done!" A voice came from the lunch room. "I will!" He yelled back. "Nathan, If you do anything untrustworthy, then you're out. Are we clear?" Cody said. "Yeah." Nathan replied. Cody walked off and I could hear him yell to everybody that breakfast was ready. Me and Hope walked to the lunch room with Nathan and sat down with our food and talked about the whole situation. The whole time Cody and Beau were whispering and looking at our table. "They don't trust me do they?" Nathan said laying his fork down. "It may take a little bit, but they'll give in." I replied. I could tell by the look on his face he didn't believe me. Scarlett and Savannah came in and we introduce Nathan to them. He seemed to know them both before this stuff happened. We all just talked about Nathans camp and what he knew about us before everything went to hell. "Hey guys, Cody your help. Mind to come?" Cole asked. "Yeah, what does he need?" Savannah asked. "Oh, there just a few things we need to change around the school to make it a bit cleaner." Cole replied. "Who is helping?" I said. "Man, you guys ask a lot of questions. Me, Cody, Jason, Beau, and you guys if you'd hurry and come with." He said. He walked away before we could ask more. We all got up, even Nathan, and helped them. It took awhile and before we knew it, it was night time. We ate left over dinner and talked. We laughed with each other. You could tell Nathan was growing on us. "Well you guys, I'm going to bed. If you guys don't mind to show Nathan where the blankets and stuff are, that would be nice." Cody said getting up. "Night Cody." We all said. "I'll get Nathan his things. Are you ready to go to bed?" Beau asked. "Mhm." Nathan said. They both left. It was just me, Cole, Jason, Savannah, and Scarlett now. We talked for about another thirty minutes and finally went to go lay down. Tonight, I fell asleep without any trouble. The way the rain hit the windows soothed me to sleep.
