A New Start

Chapter 34: Cole's Pov

We reached the truck hiding behind it. "They notice us so we have to take as many out as we can and run, and I mean run, to the door." Jason said cocking his gun back. Me and Matthew nodded in agreement pulling out our guns. We all ran different directions. Matthew going in the back of the truck, me going to the left, and Jason going to the right.
Shots and groaning was the only thing I could hear. They were everywhere. I took a deep breath in and kept shooting. "Shit.." Matthew yells. "Guys, i'm out. Cover me!" He yelled. I was the closes to him, has to be me.
I looked his direction and started to shoot the ones climbing up the side of the truck. I was to distracted by the ones coming up the truck and forgotten about the ones coming to me. A creature jumped on me, a girl to be exact.
I fall to the ground. My gun falling from my hands. I held the zombie by the shoulders, pushing it away. Fuck it. I let my right arm free from in and my left on its chest pushing it away. I reached for my gun, but couldn't find it. "Damn it Matt! Where the hell are you?" I yelled. I could see more creatures getting closer to me. This is it. This is the end of me.
I reach just a little bit farther until I see the creatures coming towards me start to fall one by one and then the one on me went limp. I pushed it out of the way to see Jason holding his hand out for me to grab. "Matt ran. He was getting a bit crowded to so I told him to run. Sorry it took a bit buddy." He said with a smile. I returned the smile.
We got to the two double doors leading towards the gym. "I have the key to the armory. There's a sniper in there and a few weapons. Leave some for Cody and them." He opened the door just slightly and peeked his head in. He came back out. His face went into a frown. "There's a lot isn't there?" Matthew asked. Jason shook his head. "We could go in one by one?" I suggested. Jason sat in silence for a moment. "That could work. Everyone, pull out their knifes." He said. We each pulled them out and had them in "attack form". First it was Jason, then Matthew, and then me. I volunteered to go last.
We reached the armor room within a minute of us being in the building. Jason reached into his pocket again feeling for his keys. Once he found them he pulled them out unclocking it and reaching for the guns handing them to us. I got the sniper and Matthew wanted the pistol. It was a nice pistol.
We headed back into the main hall again, seeing Hope and Chasity in a room. They were huddled together in a classroom. Next to the window was Luther making sure none of the zombies got in. "Should we help them?" I asked. Jason looked for a moment. He ran to the door and peeked his head in. He said something to them, but to faint for me to hear. Jason came back out shutting the door and I heard a locking noise behind it.
We started down the hall again, finally ready reaching the gym. The two gym doors were still locked together. "Should we go around and see if Cody and them are there?" I suggested. Jason started to pace back and forth probably thinking if that's a good idea or not. "There seems to be no other option here Jason." Matthew said getting impatient. He looked a little pale.
Jason ignored his remark and started out the door leaving me and Matthew to follow behind.
We walked down the concrete walkway and turned right. We went straight. "Sophia, watch out behind you. You never know if they will come the way." An unknown voice yelled. Matthews face went bright again making some color come back. He started to run in the direction of the voice. "Fuck, come on. He's going to get himself killed." Jason yelled and ran after him.
We got to the other side of the fence seeing a horde or creatures. Well, a small horde. I laid the sniper attached to my back aside on the grass and pulled my knife out. "Try to sneak up on them. These guys don't seem that alert to us." I said. We were in a line creeping up slowly behind them.
I stabbed one right in the neck alerting a few more. Jason and Matthew took care of them. More and more caught our attention and didn't care about Sophia and the boy. Matthew looked mad and sad. Probably from seeing his girlfriend in a horde with another boy that we don't know. I chuckled a bit.
Jealousy
I kept killing the ones in front of me not paying much attention to Jason. I know he can handle himself. "We are almost to them. Just keep going." Jason yelled. I kept going.
Finally we reached them. I am a little dizzy from the smell of decaying bodies.
"I thought we were going to die." The boy said. I looked up from hearing the familiar voice. It was Beau. I looked behind him seeing Matthew and Sophia hugging. Sophia was crying and Matthew looked like he was about to, but was holding it in.
Beau told us where Emalea and the rest went. "We were just inside. They weren't there." I said. Beau opened his mouth to say something, but closed it and his eye opened wide. I heard and scream and turned around to see where it came from. Scarlett was hanging halfway off the roof. A guy was holding her down and another guy standing talking to somebody.
I ran and got my sniper, the rest following me probably thinking I was going to run inside. "You can't shoot him, she'll fall off." Sophia yelled. She was right, I can't shoot him. I pulled the scope up to my face having a memory come to mind.

Memory
"Okay son, keep it steady. You don't want to shoot and miss making the deer run away." A deep voice said. "I got it dad." I replied. I pulled the scope up to my face and aimed at the deer's head. I held me breath and took a shot.
"Hey! Lookie there Cole. You got him!" My dad yelled. I smiled. I couldn't help, but to smile. Me first deer.

I came back from the memory shaking my head. "What's wrong?" Matthew asked. "I just had a memory. I remembered something." I said smiling like I did in the memory. I pulled the scope up again to see if I could get any idea of what's going on.
I could see Jessie on one side with Emalea and Savannah on the other. "Well, they're up there." I said removing the scope from my face. Within a quick motion the boy pulled Scarlett up and pushed her towards Savannah. They both left leaving my sight. "What's going on now Cole?" Matthew asked still holding Sophia.
I pulled the scope to my face again. I could see Emalea and Jessie still up there. The guy that was holding Scarlett down was closer the the edge of the roof. He had his hand on the handle of us s gun behind his back. The guy standing started to walk towards Jessie and Emalea, but they pulled their guns out making the guy back up.
"This is your chance Cole, shoot him." Jason said. I held my breath trying to steady my aim. I took the shot seeing the guy standing up fall. He wasn't dead, I could still see him moving. The other guy stood up aiming at Jessie, but he fell to. Jason came up behind me and put his hand on my shoulder making me release the rest of the air inside of me. "Well, you hit him." Jason smiled.
A few moments later Jessie came over to they guy I shot putting a knife into him. Emalea wasn't up there anymore. "We should probably go into the gym." Beau said running to them gym. I wonder what he was so worried about.
We made it to the gym seeing Savannah and Scarlett cuddled up on the bleachers. Emalea was standing near them talking to Cody. We were okay. Everyone was okay.
