Chapter 30: Beauty Of The Lost

Perhaps the rest of them knew they'd be gone. We went out the front doors instead of the back. "Wait isn't the woods that way?" I asked pointing behind me. "We are going to a different one." Cody said. "It's a really amazing spot. We ment to show you guys for awhile now, but with the whole Gracie thing," Matthew stopped and looked away. "We had a delay." Cody finished for him. I looked forward. Cody and Beau we in front of me laughing about something. How come they were so calm out here? Isn't it dangerous out here? Now that I think about it, there hasn't been many ceatures out here.
"No, no. You're saying it all wrong." Matthew said. "You have to say it like this!" He stopped and took a gasp of air. What were they talking about? He opened his mouth to say it but Sophia stopped him before he could. "Don't, you'll just make a fool of yourself." She put her hand on his shoulder. She had to step on her tippy toes a bit. "Short stack." I laughed at her. She turned around towards me still on her tippy toes. "Short stack?" She questioned trying to keep a serious face. She wasn't so good with that. I laughed at her and pushed her back a little bit. She broke and started to laugh uncontrollably. At this point we were all laughing.
It felt like forever just to get to the railroad tracks. "Not to far from here." Beau said pointing into the woods. Part of the railroad lead into the woods, we followed it. The woods were silent besides the wind blowing in the trees.
"Here we are." Matthew pointed at a opened stop of the woods. It was leading into big opened field. "We just have to jump over the fence." He finished. Oh great, jumping fences. I couldn't even jump the one at the camp. We all jumped over the fence trying not to get cut. First was the boys then us. Sophia went without hesitation. She landed perfectly. My turn. I told myself that it's just a fence and I could do it. I counted to three in my head. Why was this such a big deal?

I took a gasp of air.

I jumped over the fence feeling hands grab my arms. "Wasn't so bad now was it?" Cody smiled at me.
It was beautiful at this time. The sun was still bright and there were trees in random places. "It's," I stopped. "Stunning." Sophia finished for me. The guys smiled and started to walk ahead of us. "I knew they'd like it." Matthew whispered to Cody. There was one lonely tree in the middle of the hill. It was giant. The leaves on it were mostly gone and you could see the small house built in. There were many of flowers and clovers by the tree. "The veiw is pretty amazing up there." I could hear Matthew whisper to Sophia. I shook my head and smiled in their direction. "What?" Beau asked looking at me. I pointed at the two of them and just chuckled. "One of my best friends dating my uncle." I smiled again. "Is it weird to you?" He asked. "No, not at all. I actually don't mind." I stood up straight. We kept walking. It didn't look far, but the hills made it seem longer.
"Here we are." Cody said pointing up at the tree. We stood there looking at Cody. "You uh... guys gonna go up or...?" He questioned to all of us. "Well, we figured you'd go," I stopped. "you know, I'll go first." I rubbed the back of my head. Once I got up there I stuck my hand out holding my thumb up. "Jesus, you guys act like theres a death trap up there." I could here Cody say from below. "Knowing you, there probably is." Sophia said going up the ladder. Matthew laughed at her joke. The rest followed behind them.
"Whoa," Sophia whispered. "The veiw." She finished. "We didn't lie to you." Matthew rubbed Sophia's back. She looked up at him and smiled. She was really short.
There was no roof and only two windows. One side had no wall for the entrance. "Why is there no roof?" I asked pointing up. "I took it off." Beau said looking up from some cards. He was playing with Cody. "How come?" I asked. "Sometimes I come out here and think. I like to look up at the stars when I do. I think about most things up here." He said. The stars are beautiful at night.
We were really high up. I look out one of the only windows. You could see from miles. There was an old farmers house not to far from the tree. Creatures were raiding the place. We were to far for them to notice. Like Beau said, some can hear better than the others. Hopefully these's couldn't hear worth shit.
The sun was setting faster than normal, or maybe we were all just having to much fun. This was the best time I have had since the whole thing had started. My stomach hurt from laughing so hard.
"So are we going to head back or stay here?" Sophia asked. She was rapped up in Matthew's arms. "I mean we could stay the night here. I've done it many of times." Beau said. "It's not that bad." He finished. "Sounds fun." Cody said. "I'm in." Sophia added.
At this time we all went to sleep on our own time. Cody and Beau played some more cards laughing away, Matthew and Sophia cuddled all night, and me, I laid down looking at the stars, thinking. I can see why Beau liked it. It was soothing. The cool wind blowing in my hair made me fall feel sleepy. I could hear the breathing evening our through the tree. I rose up to see who was all awake, practically half asleep myself. Matthew and Sophia were asleep and I could see Cody and Beau trying to fall asleep.
The wind got colder and colder during the night. It made it hard for me to go to sleep. Sooner or later, my eyes shut slowly and darkness feeled my eyes.
