The rough skin of her fingertips met the bark of a birch tree as she turned to fix her attention on the prince following her, simply to check on him.
A smile spread across her lips.
The Asgardian forests were her comfort space, the place to disappear into once living sucked. Whenever the scent of nature would envelope her, she'd feel safe, it would fill her up with warm comfort.
The time had come to share said feelings connected to the forests with the person closest to her.
Every shade of green one could ever think of surrounded the two of them as they entered a different section of the forest, trees of seemingly every kind growing there.
[Name] led the two of them, slow and gentle through the knee-high grass carpet, careful not to destroy other plants growing there. Though she barely noticed, the prince imitated her steps.
"Uh, if you don't mind me asking, where exactly are you leading us to?" he uttered all of a sudden, throwing a disquieted glance at the sky, now causing her to imitate him.
Dark grey coloured clouds adorned the once by sunlight illuminated sky, not allowing a single hint of the blue peaking through now.
She scoffed. Though rain nor thunderstorms weren't something she minded, getting completely soaked before even reaching her favourite spot did not sound too pleasant.
"If I'm being honest, it would still take a little while... shall we hurry back to the kingdom before the tempest settles in?
Right after those words left her mouth, a dull rumble emanating from above silenced the two of them.
Loki's glance dwelled on her for a second as he hesitated, yet then he grabbed her hand and pulled her along. His black curls jumped around his features as he ran, yet he paid close attention to her being able to keep up with him.
"I know a certain spot myself, not long from here", he said as they kept on running.
All the different shades and shapes of nature flew them by, yet [Name]'s mind was in a haze as she tried to figure the events; him grabbing her hand, him pulling her along, ... he said he knew somewhere, didn't he?
As they ran, thunder announced the upcoming tempest a couple of times until eventually, the clouds broke and rain started to heavily pour through the roof of leaves.
Finally, a rocky outcrop appeared in between pine trees. Loki signalised her to duck in order to quickly get under the ledge, which she did.
Panting, she let her back rest against the hard, cold stone, attempting to recover from the sudden adrenaline that was still rushing through her veins.
"Are you well?" the prince breathed, yet he was interrupted by the sudden lightning illuminating their surroundings.
She nodded, still out of breath. "You?"
He too gave a simple nod as an answer.
Shivers were now sent down her spine as she hugged her knees in order to gain some warmth, yet her clothes were already soaked, their wet coldness sticking to her skin. She sighed, allowing her limbs, her eyelids to rest for a moment.
Thus her shoulder gently brushed the one of the prince sitting beside her, yet when they became aware of the sudden touch, both flinched, muttering an apology.
"You're cold", he remarked after his glance had lingered on her body for a moment.
"I'll be fine, let's just hope these conditions won't last for too long", she answered, yet Loki was already attempting to take off his cloak to give it to her.
At first, she insisted on him keeping his clothing, she'd be fine, yet eventually, Loki ended up wrapping his cloak around her shoulders. She noticed how unconfident he was in doing so, and he knew she was aware, which made him rethink why he'd taken her hand to lead her here at all.
An indescribably pleasant scent reached her nostrils as his cloak enveloped her and though it was neither warm nor very comfortable, simply knowing that he willingly gave it to her caused warmth to fill her up.
"Thank you, Loki", she whispered, yet it was enough to shake him from the stupor he'd been in since he'd given her his cloak.
A reticent, genuine smile graced his lips. "My pleasure."
[Name] shifted, carefully grasping the fabric around her shoulders, now finding herself closer to the prince, yet his facial expression told her he wasn't bothered by it as much.
"We'll head to my favourite spot on another day then, perhaps?" she suggested, now turning her head in order to face Loki.
He nodded, his smile that was just about to fade lighting up his face once more. "I'd love to do so, yes."
Another lightning crackled in the sky, causing both of them to startle at the sudden noise. Their fingers intertwined, causing a sudden heat to creep up her cheeks whilst she let her glance wander to the prince next to her.
He nodded with the same, genuine smile remaining on his lips, and she carefully leaned against his cool body in response, smiling as well.
For a long, long moment, both stared into the distance, listening to the rain, the thunder and their heartbeats.
