day 2 of nationals.

that was the least convenient time for you to tell him that.

he froze. "what?"

"i don't know! i'm fucking upset, just forget i said that."

"so we're just skipping past that?"

"yes, because i'm not skipping past the part where you treated me like shit!"

"when did i treat you like shit?" he shook his hands.

"you were with other girls days before we officially got together," you groaned.

"i don't even care about her like that! i care about you!"

"is that why you just called me a bitch?" you rebutted.

"i didn't mean it like that, i wasn't thinking," he said.

you didn't want to hear it. you changed the subject.

"so who was she?"

"y/n-"

"don't try to change the subject, i asked who," you replied, as if you didn't just change the subject yourself.

he looked uncomfortable, but you couldn't even feel bad for him. "a family friend."

"what family friend?" you pushed.

"suzumeda, my dad's business partner's daughter."

"suzumeda, like... kaori?" you asked. "please tell me it wasn't kaori."

he didn't reply, which was all the response you needed from him.

"oh my fucking god, i can't believe you."

rintarou's eyes never left you while you dropped back down onto the bed, resting your head in both of your hands.

"are you alright?" he asked hesitantly.

"yes, i'm perfectly fucking fine. just found out my boyfriend was fucking one of my childhood best friends about 14 days before we got together, how are you?"

"i already told you, i didn't care about her," he pleaded, "and i cut it off before we started dating. she didn't even know about us until like a month passed because i stopped texting her."

"what, you ghosted her?"

"well, yeah?"

"it's like the more that you speak the more of a douchebag you sound like," you said, "i feel like i don't even know you."

he sat down next to you, "i'm sorry y/n, i didn't mean to hurt you."

"but you did. and you're just as shitty of a person as you were a friend to me. i could've gotten an std, you fucking idiot."

"but you didn't," he said optimistically. you rolled your eyes. what the actual hell was wrong with him?

you two sat in silence for another short while. it was late and you were really surprised that your brother hadn't heard and intruded from next door.

somehow the air felt so much colder since when you first came in. it was a lot thicker too.

"i'm sorry, y/n."

you rolled your eyes, "i know, suna. i know."

you walked over to the side of your bed to hand him his jacket, "you got me really fucked up with this. i think it's best you leave."
