narrator's pov.

"it's been way too long since the last time we actually hung out," kaori said.

"when was the last time again?" yukie asked. "we saw each other at the party but it was before that..."

you thought back, "probably when i left tokyo."

kaori's jaw dropped, "that long? really?"

once you'd hit middle school, your parents moved out of tokyo and back to miyagi.

it had been a lot of moving around, with there being a shortage of teachers in one place and better pay in the other. your mom was currently teaching students at karasuno high school, but had previously been teaching at nekoma - that's why you had been moved to tokyo and back about two times.

your dad just had to adapt into new medical environments, which he was able to do easily because of how outgoing he was.

you, however - not so much.

kaori was your best friend from kindergarten to elementary. you were also close to a few others like yukie, keiji, and akinori, but you had pretty much lost all contact with them after moving.

your mom hadn't allowed social media until you reached high school, and even then, your dms were policed by her. almost making it through second year meant that you wouldn't have to put up with weekly checkups anymore, which meant you could somewhat have your life back.

not that there was much life to have in miyagi - all your friends were just friends of your brother and you weren't actually too close with anyone but makki, mattsun and iwa.

"it's been like 5 years since we've properly talked, huh?" yukie said.

"well, how've you guys been?" you exclaimed happily, trying not to be rude or awkward. you should be excited to see them... should be. it wasn't just that you thought about rin every time you thought of kaori, it was also that there were so many people at the games earlier and your social battery was low-key dying out.

"i finally started dating konoha" yukie smiled, showing us her wallpaper with the two of them on an arcade date.

"must be nice," kaori shrugged.

yukie rolled her eyes, "i'm sure the right guy will come around, kaori."

"how am i literally bi and i have zero play?" she adds. "wide open for anyone but i still have no one??"

you were sitting quietly in your seat, honestly not knowing what to say. not wanting to say anything either.

"you don't even need anyone anyway! self love is-"

"yeah, yeah, self-love isn't getting my coochie licked."

"kaori, please," she facepalmed.

"should we order?" you spoke up.

"shit, yeah-"

yukie got out of her chair, "i need to tinkle, wait for me."

kaori grabbed her bag to make sure it was safe while she was gone, "tinkle? this bitch..."

you just laughed and looked around because you weren't sure what to say again.

"hey, y/n?" she called softly, snapping you out of your daze.

"oh, yeah?" you mumbled, shifting in your seat uncomfortably.

"i know about you and suna," she said, placing her hand on your arm.

"oh no," you said, squeezing your eyes shut. "how?"

"the party? when you sat on his lap and you guys were kissing. i may have been out of my mind drunk but you weren't slick," she laughed.
