Chapter 11: Lies

Steve's POV

I looked back at Thanos, trying to shield my fear.

He made eye contact with me and smiled. My stomach churned.

"That man knows what I speak of." He told them.

"Steve?" Natasha asked in confusion.

He wouldn't need much. Just a few drops to bring someone back. Courtney's anger would be worth it.

"Bring everyone back. Destroy the stones. And then I'll give you want you need." I told him.

"You know how to bring people back from the dead!?" Rocket exclaimed.

"I wiped away half of existence. Gamora was a price I could pay. I would rather keep her dead than bring them back. But I don't have to. Just give me what I want and I'll leave. You'll never see me again. You can imagine what would happen if you told me no." Thanos threatened.

"Well what are you waiting for?" Nebula asked, "We don't have much of a choice."

I hesitated. Courtney was going to be furious.

I pulled a flat throwing knife out of my belt and tossed it to him. He easily caught it. The hilt had Courtney's dried blood on it.

"Is that my knife?" Courtney asked Natasha quietly in confusion.

"Um." Natasha replied.

"What is this?" Thanos asked.

"It's on the hilt. That's more than enough." I told him.

He shook his head and smiled, "You won't give her to me will you?"

I stared him in the eyes threateningly as he stepped forward.

"Steve, you better give him want he wants." Rhodey warned.

"I for one could care less." Carol said carelessly.

"Listen to Ironman 2. He knows what is best for your health." Thanos said darkly.

"Courtney." I stated.

"Uh, yeah?" She asked slowly.

"Run."

"What?"

I charged Thanos, knowing that Natasha would trust me enough to actually remove Courtney from the fight. If not, Courtney would probably run after me and get herself captured.

"Steve!" Thor yelled after me.

Thanos's gauntlet glowed blue and I was flung backwards, crashing into Thor.

We both quickly stood up as everyone started shooting and attacking Thanos, but with the stones, all we were was flies.

I saw Natasha knock Courtney unconscious and drag her towards the quinjet, but so did Thanos.

The jet exploded and the two women were blasted backwards.

It happened too fast. Thanos simply grabbed Courtney's arm and then disappeared into a portal.

"No."

Courtney's POV

I groaned, sitting up and looking around. I spotted a dead body on the ground, lookimg squished as if she had fallen off a really tall cliff.
