Courtney's POV
I sat down on my bed, watching the windows on the far side of the room quietly. The moon was nowhere to be seen, it was high above the tower at this point, the time was slightly past midnight.
I can't sleep. It was a nice retreat playing with the boys today, but now that I am finally alone, left to my own thoughts, I can't help but wonder what my next move should be.
The Avengers, Steve, Tony, they could all give Damian and Jake a good life here. But what did they need me for? All I did was bring enemies to their doorstep.
Everyone would be so much safer without me.
I stood up and opened my door, walking to the open doorway just across the hall. I leaned against the frame, watching as Damian and Jake slept quietly.
Damian acted all tough, but he was soft on the inside.
I watched as he cuddled up next to Jake subconsciously, his own bed abandoned and by the looks on it, never even touched.
On the inside, I think Jake is actually the tough one, but only in the mind. Damian has the brawns. They level each other out so perfectly.
I looked away, a tear slipping down my cheek. If I leave, I'll need to get far away from New York, so that they don't ever find me. I know they might try, which is why I have to go so badly.
All I ever brought to people was pain. My parents, my friends, other prisoners of Hydra, the Avengers.
Even these two little boys who stole my heart.
I walked back to my room and wrote a letter, before sticking under Jake's pillow.
I turned and wiped my eyes, walking towards the stairs and descending at a average pace. Friday might detect something if I act suspicious.
I reached the first floor after eons and walked past everyone, all the way out of the building.
After all, Tony toned down the security after we came back. Why would I leave?
To protect everyone.
They deserved to live their lives, and they'll never get that when I'm around.
Unknown POV
"The target has exited the building. Alone." I stated.
"Pursue the target. Make sure there are no other tails."
"Understood." I replied, signaling to my team to pursue the girl from their places.
She had been kept there all day after they returned from our warning, yet she still failed to escape their grasp.
Hydra didn't want her to be so well know by the Avengers of all people. They were so weak right now, after what Captain America had did to them in S.H.E.I.L.D.
So we decided to return to an old project, the girl who could heal herself at a remarkable rate.
But Captain America just had to get involved again, and this time he brought his little group of morons with him.
I watched as the target hailed a taxi and cursed, trying to hail my own. By some miracle, one actually came to me.
I looked at the driver, ready fo hand him extra money for trailing the other, but he just leaned over to me quickly.
"Hail hydra." He whispered.
I nodded in return and kept my eyes forward as the driver followed our target.
