Courtney's POV
Whoops.
I think I broke the space time continuum.
Oh wait no, nevermind, this is all the author's fault. What a lazy cow. You guys know she wanted to finish this book right? No? Oh...
Well she actually did, but then she didn't know how to get from here to there without being boring. I mean, we went back in time, got the stones, and then Natasha and Tony died.
Damian, Jake, Bucky, and Sam all came back though.
Steve and I went to go see them. Damian and Jake were overjoyed to see me, but not as overjoyed as I was to see them.
It had been seven years for me, but only two for them.
They stayed in Wakanda, where they had friends and were training. Well, training as in... cute training for kids. They were twelve after all.
Currently, I'm sitting next to Steve. Bucky and Sam wouldn't have let him go if they knew what he was really planning to do, but he told me.
I understood. Peggy was waiting for him.
We said goodbye to each other this morning. It was really heartbreaking, but I'm glad the supersoldier lived long enough to make it to this year.
Bucky, Sam, and Bruce had already left hours ago.
Steve and I however, sat quietly on the bench, watching as the sun disappeared.
"How was it?" I asked softly.
"Wonderful."
I smiled and looked at him. After a long moment, Steve looked back.
"Where will you go after this?" I asked.
"I don't know, wherever life takes me. Where will you go?" He asked.
I hummed, "I never really thought about it. But this, being a hero, I'll keep doing that."
He nodded, "Good. I have something for you."
He turned to the side and grabbed the case his shield was in. I raised an eyebrow.
"You might need that." I told him.
"Not as much as you will. Try it on."
I hesitantly reached down and grabbed the shield, sliding the straps onto my arm. He smiled when I looked back up at him.
"How does it feel?"
"Cold. Inanimate. Like it carries someone else's life and I shouldn't be the one to hold it." I told him.
He laughed, "It will always feel cold, and I'm sure it does feel empty. You haven't filled it up yet."
"I shouldn't." I told him, putting it back in the case.
"Well what am I supposed to do with it? Give it to Sam? He'd probably end up donating it to a museum or something." Steve joked.
I rolled my eyes, "Sam wouldn't do that, he knows the government wouldn't allow it and they would take it for their own personal gain."
"Hey, but you wouldn't do that. You would use it wouldn't you?" He prompted.
"I suppose."
"Would you take it? For me?" He asked, poking my shoulder gently.
I looked at his wrinkled old man finger and laughed.
"Yes. Yes, I would for you."
