Chapter 12: War

Steve's POV

"Steve." Sam said, motioning over.

I turned away from the crack in the concrete and walked over, seeing Bucky where I had trapped him.

Courtney sat to the side, her arms crossed and eyes narrowed.

Bucky groaned and I ignored my pang of sympathy.

"Which Bucky am I talking to?" I asked.

"Your mom's name is Sarah... You used to wear newspapers in your shoes." Bucky let out a small breath of amusement.

"You can't read that at a museum." I said.

"And just like that, we're supposed to be cool?" Sam asked.

"What did I do?" Bucky asked.

"Enough." Steve said, glancing at Courtney, who ignored him.

"Oh god. I knew this would happen. Everything hydra put in me is still there. All he had to do was say the words."

"Who is he?" I asked.

"I don't know."

"People are dead. The bombing, the setup, the doctor did all that just to get 10 minutes with you. I need you to do better than 'I don't know'." I told him.

"He wanted to know about Siberia." Bucky suggested. "About where I was kept. Exactly where."

"Why would he need to know that?" Steve asked.

"Because I'm not the only winter soldier." Bucky said.

Then Bucky explained to us how Hydra stole a successful super solider serum and made more. How they trained them, I helped train them. They were stronger than me, because they had been their most elite even before the serum was given to them. Then they rebelled.

They were put on ice after that.

"And the doctor, did he control all of them?" I asked.

"No. They were loyal before they were made stronger, hydra didn't see the need to mind control them." Bucky explained. "But if he has the serum, then he could. As long as he had a way of getting it into them before they killed him."

"He said he wanted to see an empire fall." I told everyone.

"With these guys, he could do it." Sam said.

"These guys, they speak thirty languages, they can hide in plain sight, the can infiltrate, assassinate, and destroy before anyone knows they were ever there." Bucky said.

I looked at Sam.

"We can't let him get to these people." Sam said.

I nodded, "Did you tell them?"

"I don't know." Bucky answered.

"This would have been a lot easier a week ago." Sam said.

"We should call Tony." I said.

"He won't believe us." Sam told me.

"But if he did-"

"It won't work." Sam said.

"So we're on our own?" I asked.

"Not necessarily."

I looked at Courtney, who never stopped watching Bucky with eagle eyes. She ignored my stare so I walked over.

"You should get back to Jake and Damian." I said.

She stayed quiet for a moment.

"I know this man."
