Song for Chapter: The Warmth - Koda

******
JESSIES POV

The first thing that woke me was the ice cold draft, starting from my toes and reaching my neck, a tickling feeling running along my body. I felt loose. As if my body was not mine, and I was just a foreign soul and my corpse was just a host.

The second thing that woke me up was an ache in the back of my head. It wasn't sharp like knives, but more like a pull. Someone tugging on your hair constantly, no jerks or harsh yanks, just a constant tug. I wiggle my fingers, my eyes not quite ready to open. I wiggled each foot, then started to raise my hands, and turn my aching head. My body was coming back to life after what felt like years of a soft death.

"How are you feeling Ms. Valentino?" A smooth voice awakens my ears, the aching in my head thankfully staying at its burning pace.

"Fine." I croak out, but my voice is not my own either. Although I don't remember how I used to sound I somehow know it wasn't like this; raspy and thick; almost like my throat is buried inches deep in cotton and dirt.

"You've been in the hospital for a week after the back of your car was hit by a truck." I nod my head at his words, trying my best to remember what they all mean. I feel so foggy and everywhere.

"My name is Dr. Tomlinson and I have your nurse Leah right beside me. You had surgery about 19 hours ago. Is it alright if we run some tests, as you lay down." I nod again not quite remembering what tests are. I immediately feel cold hands slide against my ankle lighting tapping it, then running a metal object under each sole of my feet making me squirm, a funny feeling running along my body that makes me smile.

"You're ticklish." I hear a soft woman's voice say. It must be the nurse.

She works her way up my body, testing each hand and finger, rotating my arms, feeling around my stomach for something she called any organ problems. She runs her fingers along my arms the hairs sticking up as she expected. "Good." she says, "Goosebumps are good." Her cold hands slowly rotate my head and I wince at the slow increasing pain.

"The pain will slowly subside." I hear Dr. Tomlinson say, his voice sounding not as close as the nurse's.

"I am going to need you to open your eyes." Nurse Leah says.

"I don't want to." That's the best I could say, my throat still feeling blocked. I was afraid to see where I was, and who these people were. I was afraid to see what day it was. Most of all I was afraid of who wouldn't be waiting for me. I hope it was mom.

"It'll only be for a second and then we'll let you get some rest."

I nod my head one last time before slowly opening my eyes.

There stood a tall slender man in a uniform, beside a tanned skin lad; Dr. Tomlinson and Nurse Leah I assumed. The room was coloured an ugly blue and the white pale blinds were drawn, giving my room a musty glow. My skin was dry and crackly and my hair was all over my face. Clips, wires, beeping buttons and machines were all around my thin bed the only clear view through the machines many wires was a small grey chair. In it was a very handsome boy.

"Missed you." The boy said, another accent lacing his deep voice. He had long dark brown hair falling into his eyes. His face was scratched up, cuts lining his eyes, forehead and lips. His neck had a brace and so did his wrist. Even though he looked broken he was still very attractive, an urge to hug him pounding onto my chest. "Do you mind giving up some time Dr. Tomlinson - or uh Louis."

"Sure." My doctor said to the attractive looking man. "Leah and I will be back later throughout the day to check on her progress." Soon after they closed the door behind them, leaving me alone with a mystery man.
