Things have finally been going back to some kind of normal. If there ever was a normal, that is. The Pogues have been hanging out more. Kie and I are cool, and JJ is finally talking to me a little. John B and Sarah seem okay, and Pope and Kie are friendly now.
JJ and Kie have been arguing lately, though. The worst part is, the arguments always start over me. I don't want them to argue, but I don't know if I want a relationship right now. I think everyone heard what I told Pope the night of Midsummer's when I was on my high. Ever since then, they all have been making an effort to bring the group back together.
I'm sitting on the back deck with JJ and John B. The sun is setting, and the fairy lights Sarah and I hung are twinkling above us. There are beer cans by each of our feet. The smoke from JJ's blunt floats into the air and disappears in the sky. A cold wind flies around us. It's the end of summer, so it's beginning to get cold.
"Hey, you guys," I say. "I'm really glad I broke into the Chat that day. I've been really lucky to have you guys in my life."
The boys look at me in confusion. I don't usually get deep with them anymore, so maybe it's weird. JJ chuckles, followed by John B.
"Me too, B," JJ smiles. Then, he coughs up some smoke.
John B snickers, "Yeah, me too."
I sit back in my chair, watching the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in my life. The sky is painted a deep orange and red as the bright light goes dim among the horizon. The waves smack underneath the scene. It's breathtaking. I can't help but feel grateful for seeing this.
The back door is thrown open. The three of us turn our heads towards the sound. Pope is standing, staring at us. He looks almost out of breath.
"What is it, Pope," I ask.
"I think.. I think I may have a way to get the money back.. And the gold."

"I thought JJ was the one who comes up with the dumb ideas," I snort.
JJ scoffs, "As if you could do any better."
"Oh, I think we both know I could."
"Can you two stop flirting," Kie remarks in annoyance. "Maybe we can revise that idea a little bit."
Pope scoffs. He keeps trying to talk, but everyone interrupts him.
"Yeah, like maybe we can surf to the Bahamas and get the gold," JJ suggests.
"We're not surfing to the Bahamas."
