Chapter 11: The Funeral

(Three Days Later)

Y/N's POV

So, it's been three days since Peter was killed by the green goblin and I can't help but feel it's my fault. Maybe if I wasn't there, Peter would've won because he wouldn't have been so focused on me.

The green goblin also got away and it makes me so angry that he just killed Peter without thinking twice.

New York has also been upset, there's been so many videos online of Peters death and there's so many sad comments. I just wish it didn't happen, if I could I would go back in time and take his place but I can't.

Anyways right now is the funeral for Peter, there's also a funeral for Spider-Man but I wanted to go to Peters funeral. I'm actually here with MJ.

As I stand next to MJ, I see all the people that knew Peter and I can't help but feel guilty for what happened. If they all knew about what happened they'd know that it was my fault. I just know that it was my fault.

After the funeral was over, everyone left while I stayed so I could say goodbye to Peter by myself. After I say my goodbyes I turn around to see MJ.

Y/N: I'm so sorry.

Mary Jane: For what, Y/N?

Y/N: It was my fault. Peter died because of me.

Mary Jane: No. you don't get to do that. You don't get to blame yourself for something that was out of your control.

Y/N: But if he wasn't so focused on training me then he would have been able to stop green goblin.

Mary Jane: Y/N, do you know what I loved about Peter?

Y/N: What?

Mary Jane: That every time he put on his mask he always knew that there was a chance he wouldn't come back. That it could all be over like that. But he didn't care. He didn't care because he knew that he had to protect the city.

Y/N: But if he wasn't so focused on me!

Mary Jane: It still could have happened. Y/N I don't blame you and I don't blame Peter. You meant so much to Peter.

Y/N: He didn't even know me that long.

Mary Jane: He didn't need to know you because he saw you, Y/N. He wouldn't want you to blame yourself for what happened. He'd want you to pick yourself up and keep being a hero.

Y/N: But I'm not a hero. Not without him.

Mary Jane: You don't need Peter to be a hero.

Y/N: I'm not Spider-Man.

Mary Jane: Your right. Your not Spider-Man. Your Y/N and I know that your the perfect person to take over for Peter. He'd want you too. He'd want you to carry his legacy on.

Y/N: What if I fail?

Mary Jane: You will. You'll fail a lot. But so did Peter. He failed quite a lot but he got back up and continued to try. But in the end, Y/N he didn't fail because he was a hero. And now you'll be a hero and your gonna make many mistakes along the way but you can't let those mistakes bring you down.

Y/N: With great power comes great responsibility.

MJ looked at me for a moment.

Y/N: Peter said that to me before he...

Mary Jane: And he was right....come on....there's something I wanna show you.

(Twenty minutes later)

MJ and I are now back at MJ's apartment and she has just told me that she is pregnant and now Peter won't get to see his child.

MJ brings me down to the basement of the apartment building.

Y/N: What are we doing down here?

Mary Jane: There's something that Peter had down here. He kept it in a room behind this wall over here.

She walks over to the wall in front of the bookcase.

Mary Jane: Care to give me a hand.

Y/N: Yeah.

Then I go over to the bookcase and push it over and behind the bookcase was a door.

Y/N: What's through here?

Mary Jane: Open the door and find out.

Then I hesitate but I do open the door and I walk inside and my eyes widen when I see a bunch of Spider-Man suits and web shooters and a big computer in the corner.

Mary Jane: Peter spent alot of time down here.

Y/N: Who was he batman?

Mary Jane: Who?

I chuckle because I know that she obviously didn't read comic books.

Y/N: Uh no one.

I then see a big case with a tarp over it.

Y/N: What's that, MJ?

Mary Jane: Something he wanted you to have.

Then MJ walks over and takes the tarp off and my eyes widen when I see that there was a Spider-Man suit inside the big case on a mannequin.

Mary Jane: Try it on.

Y/N: Are you sure?

Mary Jane: Go ahead. I'll wait outside.

Then MJ leaves the room.

I walk over and put my hand on the case and I get a glimpse of Peter dying in my arms before I snap out of it.

Then I open the case and I change into the suit.

After a few minutes MJ comes back in the room.

Mary Jane: It looks good.

Y/N: Yeah it does.

Mary Jane: You can change it to whatever you want. I think Peter would want that.

I then walk over and stand in front of the mirror.

Y/N: No. It's perfect.

Mary Jane: Well it's your turn now. Spider-Man.

Then I look at MJ after she said Spider-Man and somehow I feel like maybe Peter would want me to be Spider-Man. He'd want me to live up to legacy.
