Chapter 30: It All Goes

(Twenty Minutes Later)

Y/N's POV

We are now sat in the van after surrendering and we don't even know where they are taking us.

Steve: It was him. He looked right at me and, he didn't even recognise me. 

Sam: I don't get how that's even possible. It was over seventy years ago. 

Steve: Zola. Bucky's whole unit was captured in '43. They experimented on him. Whatever he did must of helped Bucky survive that fall. They must have found him... 

Natasha: That's not on you Steve. 

Steve: Even when I had no-one. I had Bucky. 

After moment of silence Sam spoke to one of the guards. 

Sam: You need to get a doctor. If we don't put pressure on the wound she'll bleed out here in thr truck... 

The guard activates her shock baton and uses it to take down the other guard. The guard took off their helmet to reaval Maria Hill.

Maria: Man, that thing was sqeezing my brain. 

Hill then looks at Sam. 

Maria: Who's this guy?

(Two Hours Later)

We are now at an undisclosed location after Maria had saved us.

Steve and I help bring Nat into the building so she can get fixed up.

Maria: GSW. She's lost at least a pint.

A doctor then runs towards us.

Maria: Gsw she's lost at least a pint.

Sam: Maybe two.

???: Let me take her.

Maria: She'll want to see him first.

We were all confused by this and then Maria leads us into a room.

Then we see Nick Fury laying on a bed and we were shocked.

Nick: About Damn Time.

(Five minutes later)

We are now sitting down and the doctor has cleaned up Nat's wound.

Nick: Lacerated spinal column, cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver,  and one large headache.

Doctor: Don't forget your collapsed lung.

Nick: Let's not forget that. Otherwise, I'm good.

Y/N: They cut you open. Your heart stopped.

Nick: Tetrodotoxin B, kid. Slows the pulse to one beat a minute. Banner developed it for stress. Didn't work so great for him, but we found a use for it.

Steve: Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?

Maria: Any attempt on the director's life has to look successful.

Nick: Can't kill you if you're already dead. Besides, I wasn't sure who to trust.

(One hour later)

We are now sitting down and Nick is all patched up and we are discussing a plan.

Fury tells us about Pierce not accepting a noble peace prize and saying this is why he has trust issues. 

We now start to talk about the plan to take down HYDRA. 

Fury then opens a case that has three blades in it.

Sam: What's that? 

Hill brings up a visual of what the helicarriers will do.

Maria: Once the helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they'll triangulate with Insight satellites, becoming fully weaponized. 

Nick Fury: We need to breach those carriers and replace their targeting blades with our own.

Maria: One or two wont cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work, because if even one of those ships remains operational, a whole lot of people are gonna die.

Nick: We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is HYDRA. We have to get past them, insert these server blades. And maybe just maybe we can salvage what's left...

Steve: We're not salvaging anything. 

Y/N: We're not just taking down the carriers. We're taking down S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick: S.H.I.E.L.D. had nothing to do with this.

Steve: You gave me this mission. This is how it ends. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s been compromised. You said so yourself. Hydra grew right under your nose and nobody noticed.

Nick: Why do you think we're meeting in this cave? I noticed.

Y/N: How many paid the price before you did?

Nick: Don't get sentimental on me, kid. Look, I didn't know about the huntress or your family.

He looks at Steve.

Nick: And I didn't know about Barnes either.

Y/N: Even if you had, would you have told us?

Steve: Or would you have compartmentalized that, too?

Nick just stays silent.

Steve: S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA, it all goes.

Maria: He's right.

Nick look at all of us before he looked at Sam.

Sam: Don't look at me, I do what he does, just slower.

Nick then looked back at Steve and I.

Nick: Well...

He stopped talking and let out a sigh and I could see that he was really giving it thought about what Steve had said.

Nick: Looks like your giving the orders now, Captain.

(One hour later)

Steve's POV

I couldn't stop thinking about Bucky. I couldn't believe what he had gone through since the moment he dropped from the train.

I always wished he was alive when I woke up after 70 years but not like this. I hated knowing for just one second that my best friend was being used as a tool.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Y/N's voice.

Y/N: He's gonna be there, you know?

I look over at Y/N and Sam.

Steve: I know.

Y/N and Sam walk over to me.

Sam: Whoever he used to be and the guy he is now, I don't think he's the kind you save. He's the kind you stop.

I stayed silent for a moment.

Steve: I don't know if I can do that, Sam.

Sam: Well he may not give you a choice. He doesn't know you.

Steve: He will. Both of you gear up. It's time.

Sam: You gonna wear that?

Steve: No, when your in a war, you gotta wear a uniform.

Then Steve walks away and Sam and I both go and suit up because it was now or never.
