They had been together long enough for each to know the other like the back of their hand. It has been seven years since Daniella turned to a vampire; they were not blissful or full of endless happiness. They fought together, they fought against each other, but somehow, they always managed to shine through it all.
Once Daniella turned to a vampire, they found out that Valkov was still within her. The perks of being a vampire allowed him to exist within her without killing her. She could still remember his first words to her. "Finally I can come out and play". Daniella wouldn't deny her happiness at his presence; she had gotten used to his voice in her head.
They traveled together; Damon was the one who suggested the idea. Daniella was reluctant at first, worried that their friends would need when the next big-bad antagonist showed up in town. However, Damon was resilient. She could still remember how she told him that he had seen the world already, his reply was heart-warming yet equally ridiculous.
"I want to see it with your eyes". The words had left his mouth so easily and she felt like a giddy teenager with the look he was giving her. Later, they found themselves remembering that night and laughing.
Daniella stood in Damon's room in the boarding house, or as he liked to call it, their room, with a nostalgic look on her face. She felt his arms wrap around her from behind before he dipped down giving her neck soft kisses, "What are you thinking about?"
Daniella turned in his embrace, wrapping her arms around him. She gave him a small peck, "I think I missed it here".
"But we always come here". He sounded whiny and she couldn't help giggling at him. They always visited Mystic Falls, whenever their family and friends needed them, they were one call away from jumping into a plane and showing up to help. Daniella created a ritual; it was mainly for Stefan and Damon, that they would always gather in Christmas time. In the last couple of years, she even managed to convince them with birthdays.
She shook her head, "Even if you don't say it big guy, I know you miss Stefan"
Damon scowled, and feigned a horrified look, "Do you think he knows?"
She laughed, "Don't worry. Your secret is safe"
It was Christmas and they were all gathering in the boarding house, like usual. She even managed to convince Elijah to show up this time. His relationship with Bonnie had evolved beautifully and since they decided to get together, they hadn't left each other. Daniella had received a couple of long calls from Bonnie, complaining and venting out about the problems of being with an original.
It was five years ago, Bonnie showed up at their house in New York, a small apartment that Damon acquired, and they had stayed in during their visit. To say Daniella was shocked to see the witch at their door would be an understatement. "What happened?" She had asked her worriedly, thinking the worst.
"I decided that I will slow down my aging, and I need help"
It was at that time that bonnie confessed that she would be willing to turn, but she needed some time to ease herself into the idea. Bonnie stayed with them for a week, in which she told them that she will be moving with Elijah to New Orleans, where his family decided to take residence.
"Are you planning to stay up there forever?" Damon and Daniella heard Caroline yelling for them from downstairs. They shared a look and Daniella only shook her head. When they went downstairs they found everyone gathered by the fireplace.
Caroline and Stefan looked really good together, that much Daniella had to admit. She had managed, after a lot of hard work, to form a friendship with Stefan. He saw her as the sister he had never had. So, when he came and told her that he was in love with Caroline she was not really shocked. They had been dancing around each other for a long time, and it was only logical that they would get together. Moreover, their life in Mystic Falls wasn't giving them the chance to do much.
