The next morning, Dina woke up to the sound of quiet grunting, as she sat up she saw Vi wasn't in her bunk, which was strange. When she looked down she saw the tattooed inmate doing sit ups in the centre of the cell, which was a small amount of space to move in, let alone work out. Although, Dina wasn't mad about being woken, quite the opposite in fact.

The beads of sweat running down Vi's face as she sat up almost made Dina's jaw drop, the dimly lit torch on the outside of the cell seemed to highlight Vi's muscular arms with the help of the thin layer of sweat as she continued to work out. Dina felt her cheeks burn red until she remembered something, this woman was a criminal. She shook her head and got up, walking to the cell door and leaning against the bars, looking into the hallway.
"There aren't any guards patrolling this early, don't worry"
Vi said, sitting up with her arms on her knees as she looked up at Dina.
"How do you know if it's early?"
Dina asked, turning to face the pink haired woman who was now wiping the sweat from her forehead.

Dina swallowed deeply, criminal or not, she was still undeniably attractive.
"When you spend as much time here as I have, you start to learn the guards' schedules. Just after 8am, a guard will check the cells on this floor before releasing everyone for the next two hours.
"And what time is it now?"
Vi climbs to her feet, before sitting on her bunk and relaxing after her workout.
"I have no idea, when the guard shows up, you'll have your answer"
She smirked, Dina simply nodded before sitting on her own concrete slab.

"How long have you been here, then?"
She asked Vi, who just shrugged in response
"You're full of questions, aren't you?... Well, if you must know, I have no idea how long I've been here. But if I had to guess, I'd say a few years, maybe, it's hard to tell from inside a concrete cell"
Suddenly Dina began to feel sick, it was blatantly obvious that when Vi was put into this cell, the correctional system forget about her. Any hope of her getting released was probably gone, unless she did something so awful she deserved this fate.

Before Dina could ask anymore questions, the sound of the elevator doors opening could be heard in the distance. Making Dina jump to her feet, Vi simply laughed at how hasty Dina's movements were, there was no point in rushing around nor standing to attention every time a guard passed, but Dina would soon learn this.
"Well, I guess it's 8 o' clock"
Vi said, reaching under her bed and grabbing a bag of toiletries. Dina noticed this and frowned
"How the hell did you get those?"
She asked, seeing toothpaste, shampoo and other hygiene necessities.
"What? You weren't given any on your way in here?"
Dina shook her head
"You must have really pissed someone off up top"

Just as she finished speaking, the cell doors clicked open, granting the inmates of the 40th floor to roam freely.
"Come with me"
Vi gestured Dina to follow her, which she did without question. Rather than heading to the refectory like yesterday, Vi headed down a separate hallway that led to what seemed like some sort of shop.
"This here is the commissary, usually if you wanted to use it, you'd have your folks send in money so you can buy things. But for us Zaunites, money is a hard thing to come by. You can either scrub toilets for pennies or you can do what I do..."
Vi asked, waving for the person from inside the commissary to get their attention.
"Which is what exactly?"
Dina asked, Vi held up her finger as a gesture to give her a second while she spoke with the enforcer in the commissary with a hushed voice.

The enforcer nodded before disappearing into the back of the storage room and emerging with a toiletry bag filled with supplies.
"Do the other inmates some favors"
Dina frowned at her answer, making Vi laugh.
"Not those kinds of favors, you never mix business with pleasure. I'm talking about contracts, in a way. I ask an inmate who has a large sum in his commissary funds if he needs anyone for a certain job. He points me in the right direction, and I swing, for a price of course. My work isn't cheap, either. The consequence of getting caught after giving some wackjob a beating is a painful one. So, if I work for someone, the money better be enough to compensate the punishments I get"
She explains, the enforcer comes back to the window and passes the toiletry bag to Vi, nodding at her before closing the window and returning to the book he was reading. Vi simply smiles at Dina and continues walking down the hallway, with Dina in tow. There was so much Dina had yet to learn.
