As the night continued forward, Dina and Vi sat in their cell, holding each other as they laid in Vi's bunk, after the enforcer had left, neither of them felt like moving and decided that relaxing and unwinding was the best way to put the day behind them. Vi had been through a lot, from the Silco's goon to the information that hints to her sister being alive, to say that she was exhausted would be putting it lightly.
Vi laid with her head on Dina's chest while her lover played with her hair, today she was feeling especially vulnerable as she listened to Dina's soothing heartbeat, all she wanted was comfort and Dina was happy to give it to her.
"I hope Powder is okay, if she's still alive"
Vi said, burying her face further into partners chest, seeking comfort.
"I'm sure she is, if she's anything like you, she'll be fine"
Dina said, reassuring Vi. Little did she know, Powder was nothing like Vi, the last time she had seen her younger sister, she wasn't great at protecting herself, and her bombs never worked.
As they began to relax, a singular set of footsteps made their way down the hall.
"Do you hear that?"
Vi asked
"Yeah, it's a woman"
This fact alone wouldn't matter anywhere else, but in Stillwater, it did. Most, if not all, female C.O's avoided the cell blocks due to the constant cat-calling and rude behaviour from the inmates, although the prisoners could do nothing from in their cells, it still made the women uncomfortable. Due to the lightness in her steps, and the different sound her heeled-boots made on the floor compared to the men's flat boots, the presence of a female enforcer could be made out from Vi and Dina, after spending so long in prison.
Dina sat up while Vi sprung from their comfortable position as she heard the steps approach. It was like she sprung back into her hardened act. Seeing Vi do this wasn't unusual for Dina, she had always done this whenever they left their cell. If anyone saw Vi acting like a lovesick puppy, it would put her in danger as this side of her would be seen as a weakness to the other inmates. Dina remained seated as the cell door slid open, grabbing both of their attentions. Vi looked towards the door that was now opened, seeing the same blue-haired enforcer from earlier standing in front of her. The woman stood tall as she looked at Vi, before her posture broke as she let out a sigh and turned, beginning to walk away.
Vi stayed quiet for a moment as she realised what was happening, she was being released. Quickly, she stepped out and called back the enforcer, who turned to face her
"What about my cellmate?"
She asked, gesturing to Dina.
"What about her? I only have your release papers"
The woman said, when she saw Vi's face drop, she began feeling bad.
"She was wrongfully accused, she doesn't deserve to be here"
Vi said, looking at Dina who's expression remained blank, this wasn't a shock to Vi's lover at all.
"I'm sorry, but my hands are tied. If she gets released too then I might as well be calling up the council and telling them exactly what we're doing. I can't risk drawing attention"
The woman asked, before Vi could argue further, Dina intervened
"It's okay Vi"
She said, standing from her bunk finally.
"Can you give us a minute?"
Vi asked the enforcer, who simply nodded respectfully and walked towards the lift, giving the two inmates privacy.
As soon as the enforcer was out of earshot, Vi walked back into the cell, darting towards Dina and oulling her into a tight hug.
"I wish there was another way... I'll find a way to get you out"
She immediately spoke as she hugged her lover, she closed her eyes as she held Dina, holding back the tears that were threatening to fall.
"No, Vi. This is what you've been waiting for"
Dina said, breaking the hug and making eye contact with Vi as she raised her hand, caressing her cheek.
"You finally have the chance to find your sister and make Silco pay for what he did. You need to go, stop worrying about me"
She said, fighting her own tears unsuccessfully as a few rolled down her cheeks. Vi was quick to wipe them away, admiring her lover's features before she pulled her into a kiss.
"I love you, Dina"
She said once the kiss broke.
Dina nodded as a breath hitched in her throat.
"I love you too, Violet. Now go, you don't want to keep the enforcer waiting"
She said, wiping her own tears as she tried to compose herself. Vi gave Dina one last kiss before finally stepping away
"Don't start acting like the moron you were on your first day, I won't be here to fight your battles"
She warned with a smile, Dina simply laughed through her tears as she remembered when Vi stood up for her against Sevika.
"I won't, I'll keep my head down and I'll get out of here soon, trust me. In the meantime, you have to forget me, Vi. Don't let me distract you while you're out there, just focus on keeping yourself happy. And one day, when I'm out, I'll come find you"
Dina said, finally being able to string a sentence as her breathing became steady.
When Dina looked down, she noticed that the her and Vi were still keeping contact by holding hands. Vi took a few deep breaths, composing herself as she looked down at their interlocked fingers.
"Be safe, Dee"
Vi said, she had finally worked up the courage to step back, letting go of Dina's hand as she walked out of the cell and down the corridor. She kept her head low and refused to look back, knowing how much it would kill her to do so. As she continued down the hallway, the sound of her cell door closing made her scrunch her eyes shut as she fought tears. She was out, while Dina was still locked behind those bars. The only thing that made her be able to walk away was Dina's words, they would see each other again, they had to.
