After regaining her consciousness slowly, Dina jolted up and looked around... It was so bright, just as her vision began to clear she felt a sharp pain in the back of her head, making her moan in pain as she held her head, she felt a bandage that was thickly wrapped around her head, making her feel confused, trying to remember what had happened.
Then it all came back, she fell from a roof, and hit her head, not one, but twice. She thought she died, but clearly that was not the fate she was bound to yet. As she continued looking around, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in her head, she noticed the white walls and white furniture. The only answer she could think of was that she was in a hospital, or some sort of infirmary. When she tried raising her other hand, it felt restricted by a piece of metal around her wrist. When Dina looked down she saw she was cuffed to a hospital bed, then the panic set in.
"Shit! No, no, no, no, this can't be happening!"
She exclaimed, taking quick, panicked breaths as she tried to free herself from the handcuffs by shaking vigorously to no avail.
Before she could continue trying to break free, she heard the click of the doors' lock disengage and the door swung open. As a doctor dressed in white entered she stopped what she was doing immediately, trying not to make things harder for herself than they already were.
"I see you're awake..."
The doctor pointed out, making Dina scoff
"Well aren't you a genius, captain obvious"
She retorted.
The doctor scowled before taking a step closer to Dina, with a clipboard in one hand and a pen in the other.
"Can I ask your name, Miss...?"
"No, you can't..."
"Well, it doesn't matter anyway, you wont need it where you're going. I hear stillwater refers to its' inmates by number. You'll just be a regular Jane Doe if that is what you wish for"
The doctor smirked, before taking a distanced glance at Dina's bandages, not daring to enter her reach.
"Stillwater? What the hell! I haven't even done anything wrong"
Dina argues, trying to hide the fear in her voice, if she enters Stillwater, it's game over for her.
"I'm just the doctor, I don't ask any questions"
The doctor answers nonanchaly, making Dina's blood boil
"Yeah, well you sure as shit don't act like one. Aren't doctors supposed to help people?"
She spat
"I am helping you"
"No, you're letting an innocent woman get taken to prison for a crime she didn't commit, that's not helping"
Her answer clearly hit a nerve with the doctor, causing him to sigh deeply
"Do you think I like this? I see this sort of thing happen almost every day, there is nothing that I can do, my role is to make sure your physical health is good enough for you to be transported to Stillwater, nothing more. And from the looks of things, besides a concussion and a skull fracture, you're good to go."
The doctor finished before leaving the room
"Wait! No! You have to help me!"
Dina begged as the door closed on her, leaving her alone in the hospital room with her thoughts and regrets. Maybe she should have been nicer to the doctor.
