Chapter 14

After their dinner, things felt awkward between Dina and Vi, which sucked as they headed back to their cell and sat in silence. Vi was the first to break the silence when she joined Dina on her bunk, sitting next to her.
"If it helps, you were a great kisser, even if it only lasted a second"
Vi assured Dina, making her smile slightly
"Can you at least warn me next time?"
"Next time?"
Vi raised an eyebrow smirking. Dina could feel her face heating up as she realised what she said. But Vi simply climbed to her feet and retreated to her own concrete slab.
"Don't worry, I know you didn't mean it"
She said, sitting down and facing Dina. But she did mean it, she absolutely did, but she wasn't about to admit it.

Dina laid down on her bunk, sighing dreamily as she replayed the moment in her head, it wasn't even meant in a romantic way, as was a rushed kiss, but it still caused butterflies in her stomach, she wanted nothing more than a more meaningful kiss to occur now. Vi copied Dina's movements and laid down in her own bunk, after spending a moment with her eyes closed, she looked at Dina.
"I think you deserve a nickname, since you keep calling me by mine"
Vi spoke, earning Dina's full attention.
"Vi's a nickname? I thought that was your actual name"
She questioned, feeling stupid as soon as the words left her mouth.
"No, my actual name is Violet, but you can keep calling me Vi, everyone else does... Plus, I like the way you say it"
"I say it normally, though"
Dina laughed, confused as to what Vi had meant.
"You do, but it seems more natural coming from you, like the way your voice carries it is... I don't know how to explain it"

Vi turned on her side, facing Dina, who continued staring at the ceiling.
"Well, okay then"
She laughed, trying to fight the urge to make fun of Vi, but she wasn't mean enough to. Vi had clearly began taking a liking to her and she didn't want to make fun of that and hurt her. Vi suggested lists of nicknames to give Dina, all of which she shook her head to, laughing at how far-fetched some of them were.
"Uhhh, okay. I'm running out of ideas"
Vi pondered, going quiet for a second while she thought.
"What about Dee, it's simple and short like mine, rather than having a nickname that makes you sound like a care bear"
Dina smiled, nodding in approval
"That one's good, I like that"
"Dee it is"
