Lacuna (my missing part) in Latin
Esme Davis's fast life has become stagnant, or so she thinks. Until one fateful night she bumps into him. During the day she is a science major at UCLA, but at night, she is an underground street racer with an unbe...

Looking over my shoulder at the clock on the end table beside the couch, I see it's now 2:45 A.M, and Esme is knocked out. She fell asleep while we watched the new season of Game of Thrones. The next episode is about to start, but I power off the television.
Esme stirs in her sleep at the sudden change of noise, and just when I think she's going to wake up, she nestles her head deeper into the pillow.
I can see her side profile perfectly at this angle, and I study it for an absurd amount of time. The shade of pink in her lips reminds me of the hibiscuses my mother planted at our vacation home in the bahamas. Her nose perfectly sloped, and the tip naturally upturned. Eyelashes so long and dark, one would think they're fake. But nothing about her here.
Lifting her up bridal style, I head to the stairs, and make my way up. Looking down at her in my arms, I can't really believe she's asleep in my arms. And to think that only three weeks ago she all but hated me.
No matter how much I may like her or how tangled my feelings for her are, I won't sleep with her without her knowledge. That's just flat out creepy. So, I head into the guest room, and decide against turning on the light, seeing as I don't want her to wake.
I lay her gently on the bed, and bring the duvet all the way up to her chin. I hesitate for a moment, running the idea one more time in my mind, before kissing her forehead.
Esme stirs a little, and clutches my hand in hers. Rubbing the back of her hand, I bask in the peace she's brought into my life for a while before sliding my hand out of hers, and walking out.
As I make my way to my room, I hear the front door close, and keys fall onto the table by the door. Sean's head pops up in the staircase a few moments later. He notices me and nods his head in my direction.
"Is Esme here?" He asks curiously, but something tells me he already knows.
"Yeah, so keep it down." I tell him, and go into my room.
Sean runs up the stairs in a mouse like manner, and when I turn around, I see he's coming this way.
"You really like her." His observation is an understatement, and three weeks late.
"And?" I ask, not really having the patience nor the knowledge of what he's getting at.
Sean shrugs nonchalantly, "Nothing. It's just so weird to see you showing genuine interest in someone." He stops and looks down at the floor, rocking back and forth on his heels. Something he does when he brings up our parents.
Looking back up at me, he shakes his head absentmindedly, and shrugs once more.
"Ever since mom and pops died, you've been like a hamster on a wheel. It's just good to see you doing something other than work. It's good to know your heart isn't ice." Letting his words sink in causes the back of my eyes to sting a little, but he's right.
