Esme
Is this what death feels like? It's quiet... Wherever I am, I can't see anything. Every now and then, I think I hear Gen or Delilah talking.
My memories, they come in flashes. That's all I've been seeing. Memories and darkness.
I hear something beeping again, but it will most likely fade out like last time. I see a white light... should I go to it? I know in all the movies they say never go towards the light, but why not?
Genesis's quiet talking gets louder, and louder until I can fully make out what she's saying.
"Mae, you have to wake up soon, you have a nephew waiting for you." None of them have- Gen is having a boy.
All of the darkness fades into light, and my eyelids feel a lot lighter. I begin blinking rapidly, and I see another light.
Now I see why they say don't go to the light, it never ends.
I can't see clearly, my vision is blurred. Why can't I see clearly?
The loud beeping gets louder and louder, and they take over my senses until I can hear someone yelling, "She's up! She's waking up. Call the doctor!" Gen yells.
Looking to where I heard the person yelling, something is restricting me from moving my head, but I see an outline. I can't make out exactly who it is, but for fun, I'll say it's Delilah.
I lift my hand to feel my neck, but it's blocked by some kind of plastic casing.
What is this?
"It's only a neck brace." I was correct. I recognize her soft, kind tone even in a coma. My best friend, one of the few people who have been honest with me.
The ringing in my ears starts again, so I try to use blinking to clear my vision as a distraction.
The blurriness goes away finally, and Delilah smiles tenderly at me with tears in her eyes. A tall, middle aged doctor walks in the room, with Milo right behind him.
"Hello, Esme I'm Dr. Smiths, but you can call me Ben." I try to talk but some kind of tube hinders me from doing so.
Dr. Smiths removes the tube slowly, but I still choke. Great, Now my throat hurts.
He brings a blue plastic cup with a straw attached in front of my lips, "Take a sip." Usually I prefer my water ice cold, but the room temperature water in the cup is just fine.
"Better?" I smile in response or what I hope to be a smile, and he nods his head.
"Good, do you remember what happened?" Ben asks, and I whisper back, "No."
Looking around the room, I notice Theya and Milo aren't present. And neither is Silas, but I choose to put that in the back of my mind.
"Genesis has informed me of your terrible fall, and from the scan I saw that your skull is fractured." I inhale deeply and my vision is again blurry, but this time from unshed tears.
