Esme

Wiping the corner of my mouth with my napkin, I lay my hand over Brie's, and smile in appreciation.

"Breakfast was delicious, thank you." I tell her as Theya comes around to me, and pick up my plate and cup. She is on dish duty today.

Since landing in Sassari almost a week ago, we've fallen into a routine, and everyone has certain jobs, so that no one person is left doing nothing.

Brie returns a tender smile, and lays her other hand on top of mine."Thank you, but there was a time when if I stepped into a kitchen, an extinguisher had to be in reach. Becoming a wife comes with many responsibilities, including feeding a giant human being."

I smile when I think back to my first night in Silas's new home. I tried to make us dinner, and we ended the night fanning all of the smoke out of the windows.

"Well, I can't cook as of now, but I do want to learn. For myself." I clarify, and she nods her head unconvinced.

"I could teach you a few things that I learned to make it easier. You know, for yourself." She offers with a smirk, and I nod enthusiastically.

Walking out of the house, and around to the pool area, I see I'm the last one out. It's not my fault this bikini came with no direction as to put it on. After looking at the model on the website for a solid ten minutes, I finally figured out where I was going wrong. I am so slow sometimes, it's embarrassing.

Even as I'm thousands of miles away from home, nothing has changed with me.

I drop my towel onto the lounge chair under the cabana, and start applying my sunscreen. The sun shines over the pool, making it and everyone inside it glisten.

Aubrie floats in one of the corners of the pool -her bump and face being the only visible body parts- while the other three are playing water volleyball.

As I continue to rub in my sunscreen, my phone rings and the anticipation that it could be Silas, causes my heart to beat faster.

Sliding my phone off the table, my face breaks into the biggest smile when I see it is him. It's a video call, meaning he wants to see me, so I check my appearance in the camera- "Are you going to answer it?" Theya asks, from the chair to my right, and I jump in fright.

I didn't hear her get out of the pool, or see her sit down across from me.

Rolling my eyes, I slide the white circle button to the right, and Silas's face pops up on the screen. Judging from the sleep still present on his face, I'll say he just woke up. My heart feels like someone is squeezing it when he smiles, and it reaches his eyes.

"Hi, May." He greets, and all of a sudden I'm feeling shy.

"Hi." I reply so low, it could qualify as a whisper.
