*I added the audio because I felt like this song would say a lot about Andrew's emotions in this Chapter, so please listen to it.*
Andrew's POV – 2 September 2019
I stretch my hand and press the stop button, after being woken up by the sound of my alarm blaring. 06h20, the clock reads. I jump off the bed excitedly and make my way to the steps that lead to the main floor of my aunt's home.
And I know you may be wondering why on Earth would I be excited at this given moment, considering that things went so bad for me in the past number of days. Now irrespective of that fact, the eye-opening conversation I had with Aunt Jenny really gave me an insight into things I hadn't thought of. Her words made me feel some sense of drive, they fuelled my fire, and they made me believe that it is possible to accomplish whatever your heart desires, if you are willing to put in the work. And I am more than willing to make things right between Christian and I.
I swing the door that leads to the kitchen open, and see Aunt Jenny with a cup of tea and a photo album in front of her.
"Good morning!" I greet sweetly, but unfortunately, startling my aunt, as she did not see, nor hear me coming up.
"What the heck is wrong with you boy, want to give me a freaking heart attack?" she asks, placing her hand on her chest.
"And the Oscar for Best Dramatic Performance goes to..." I pause.
"Don't you dare finish that sentence Andrew! Don't you dare!" she exclaims, grabbing her slipper for good measure.
"Jennifer Rob- ouch" I say rubbing my forehead, after her slipper collided with it.
"Yeah that's what you get for scaring me, and then brushing it off like it didn't mean a thing" she states seriously, making me laugh. "You look happy" she notes.
"That's because I am" I express honestly.
"Well besides the fact that you almost scared the soul straight out of my body," she shakes her head, making me laugh once again "I'm also quite happy."
"Mind sharing why you're so 'happy'?" I add air quotes for emphasis.
"I'm just really proud of how well you handled your family yesterday." Oh, that. As you may know already, yesterday we laid Grandpa Pat to rest, and it was a really somber affair, I must say. However, irrespective of the sadness of the entire situation, one could not miss the undeniable tension that lingered in the air. From the disapproving looks of distant family members, to the cold stares from fellow church goers, to the broken stare from my mother, to the look of pure hatred from my father. Through all that, I stood my ground. Each antagonizing look was met with a look that was just as vile. Just as bitter.
"I had to do what I had to do Jen" I say with a nod. This time around, I'm my main priority because that is what Grandpa Pat would've wanted. That is what I need. To put myself firsts. In Aunt Jenny's words, 'fuck my parents.'
"And I'm so proud of you" she beams. "So, besides that, is there any other reason why it seems like you are walking on clouds?"
"Well..." I pause, already feeling my cheeks warm up "...I want to fix things with Ian, and I just hope he gives me another opportunity."
"Irrespective of the outcome, just know you have my support...and your grandpa's" she expresses. "Now go get ready to get your man back" she adds with a smile. If I wasn't blushing before, I sure as hell am now.
So I head towards the bathroom in a hurry to get ready, but to also avoid embarrassing myself any further in front of my aunt.
