"Kate wait!" Y/N said as he caught up to her. "Hey, what Clint said isn't what I think-"
"What do you think?"
"I think for a kid who's only just getting into this job and their first mission being tied this close to home, I think you're holding up pretty well, certainly better than I did. That overconfidence Clint talked about, that's one of the best things about you, look at me, I'm all doom and gloom, I make Batman look like a happy unicorn when I'm on a building alone thinking, You helped a guy carry his groceries, you're one of the few heroes around who is approachable. Yeah, you're rough around a few of the edges but that's why you train. You're more Avenger material than I am." Y/N said as Kate paused momentarily before nodding.
"Thanks. Do you have a place to stay for the night?"
"I have a small base of operations but it's not a living space, why?"
"C'mon, let's go get some things from my moms place and we'll find somewhere to stay." Kate answered as she and Y/N began heading to Eleanor's penthouse.
When they arrived Y/N and Kate stepped out of the elevator and into the penthouse with Kates arm around Y/N's neck as he helped her to the stairs. Eleanor walked in and gasped seeing them both injured.
"Kate. Oh, my god. Are you okay, and why are you wearing your archery suit?" Eleanor gasped as she saw Kate's injuries.
"I'm okay." Kate answered as Y/N felt a small trickle of blood in his abdomen.
"Does this have anything to do with Clint Barton?"
"Mom, no. Clint protected us. You'll be glad to know he then told us to come home and stay away from him." Kate said as Eleanor checked her over and cradled her face.
"Look at me. You're the only thing that matters to me. Are you sure you're okay?"
Kate let her tears flow as Y/N went to make his way out of the hall before being stopped by Eleanor who was hugging and comforting Kate.
"Y/N, you still need to sort that wound out, come on, let's get you sorted." Kate said as Y/N looked down at his shirt to see a large bloodstain.
"No, I can manage on my ow-" Y/N interrupted himself hissing at the pain.
"I know you can, but you don't need to." Kate said as she helped Y/N up to her room and Eleanor grabbed a first aid kit.
Kate took Y/N's shirt off and saw a shard of a plate sticking out of his abdomen.
"Ouch. Okay this is gonna hurt, I'm gonna pull it out in 3...2..."
"Jesus. You learnt that one from Clint didn't you?"
"Yeah. What he said about you being baggage, he was wrong." Kate said as she bandaged Y/N up. "Let's go get my things from my apartment and then we can come back here."
"Sure." Y/N groaned as he went to sit up revealing scars all over his back.
"You've been doing this a long time haven't you?" Kate asked as Y/N shook his head.
"It's not the years honey, it's the mileage." Y/N answered.
"Did you really just quote Indiana Jones to me?"
"Nothing wrong with those three films." Y/N said as he stood up and put his shirt back on along with his coat.
"guessing you didn't like Crystal Skull."
"Not one bit. You ready to go?" Y/N said as Kate nodded.
