I'll Run to You // Awsten Knight

Chapter 19-Confessions

Houston, Texas

Awsten hasn't been able to stop talking about playing this show in his home town. It's Waterparks' debut album and their first tour that focuses on them.

Awsten walks all over the venue stage, pacing back and forth. His mind is rushing with thoughts of everything that could go wrong, only worrying himself more. His fading blue hair stuck up in some parts, like he had his hands running through his hair in frustration for hours.

He stops when he sees Jawn coming onto the stage to him, "Awsten, what are you doing in here? We don't have to be here until tomorrow."

"I know that, I'm just really nervous."

Jawn lightly sigh with a smile on his face, "Do you want me to go get her?"

"That'd be good, thank you Jawn."

Not even a minute later, Hope comes running in toward Awsten and embraces him in a hug, causing him to stumble a little bit, but he hugs her back tighter once he finds his balance.

"Are you okay?" She asks.

"I am now that you're here."

As soon as he finished, the red on Hope's face could be compared to the color of a fire truck.

When Awsten pulls away from the hug, he notices something on the right side of her neck.

"What's that?" He points to the black mark on her neck.

"Oh...um, it's a-a tattoo." She answers sheepishly, she didn't know how Awsten would feel about her getting a tattoo. 

He moves slightly to the side to read what it says, saying it out loud, "Powerless..like our song?"

Hope froze in place as she heard Awsten call it "their song". She never thought he would think of it as anything more than just a song they sing together at almost every show, she never expected it to be considered anything more than that. "Our..song?"

"God, you probably think that's weird, don't you? I'm sorry, I just thought that-" Awsten would have kept rambling on, if it wasn't for Hope leaning in, brushing her lips agaisnt his.

Awsten's eyes widen at the sudden contact and thought that someone was watching them, after a few seconds, he pulls away, immediately looking behind him.

"Don't worry," Hope comforts him, "I checked that no-one was looking when I did it, I'm not that oblivious of our situation."

Something seems to spark in Awsten's brain and he runs outside of the venue as fast as he can, yelling back to her to "Stay there!"

Only about 40 seconds later, he comes back in with his phone. "So, do you remember how I said you had to wait until after tour to see what I was writing?" Hope nods. "I just can't wait anymore, so when we got to Houston I immediately went to somewhere decently private so I could record this..and well, i-it's about you."

"Oh my gosh! Can I hear it? Please?" She begs.

"That's why I brought my phone. Now, this isn't a studio recording or anything, I didn't even record any instrumentals yet, but I couldn't wait for you to hear it." Awsten pulls up the recording on his phone and immediately starts playing it.

When Hope hears these lyrics play, it all fills her head. She focuses on what he's singing and admires how expressive he is with his words.

It was only when she hears the words, You can call my on my phone, I'll run to you. You won't ever have to sleep alone, when she pulls him into her arms, holding onto him like she'll never let go.
