Chapter 40-Future? Don't Know Her

December 24th, 2017

8:01 p.m.

"What do you guys think?" Awsten asked a little too quickly, his words kind of slurred together into one. It was just like the same old him to get excited over the little things. 

Awsten seated everyone in the living room with him, Hope sitting on the floor next to him and everyone else was on the couch. It was all tension and relief from then on. No matter what, Awsten knew his mom would be the most excited for it all.

Of course, he was right as usual, she was the first to hug him and the first to congratulate him.

Hope gave everyone the time to talk to him first before Awsten finally pulled her off of the floor and into his arms. The embrace lasted as long as ten seconds before Hope finally started talking, "It was even better than I expected." Which she didn't know if he took it as a compliment or not, but nonetheless he smiled at her and kissed her.

"Oh, gross," Gracie said dramatically at them. 

"Shut up," Awsten couldn't help but let out a laugh. "I can't help that I'm just so hot and amazing that I make a cool as hell album and get an even cooler girlfriend."

"Well kiddos," Awsten's dad chimed in. "Service starts in less than a half hour, Hope, if you want to come with us you can but it's understandable if you don't."

It only took her a few seconds to make up her mind. It wasn't difficult to consider the consequences of public seeing them together with his family on Christmas Eve, dead giveaway. She also needed to make sure everything she had for Awsten was set correctly, if anything was ruined it would be her fault. "I think I'll stay behind for this," she said quietly before looking at Awsten. She could tell he understood and the tenseness in her gut loosened.

Hope watched as the car pulled out of the Knights' driveway and once they were out of view, she practically ran to the gifts she had for Awsten.

She was never good at giving gifts, but she always tried her best. She got a customized guitar pick, after looking so many times somebody was willing to do it for her, and there was Jet engraved onto one side.

The other was something Awsten had eyes on when they had their day off in California. Everyone was going through small stores and he saw this floral shirt he absolutely would not stop talking about the entire day. He acted like a child when he couldn't get it because he didn't have enough money, so Hope thought that it would be safer and better to get him that than guessing anything else.

She wondered for a second what he got her. Was it something like hers? More meaningful? Less meaningful? Then there was the thought to just go look for it but she knew she couldn't. But what else was there to do? Everyone would be gone for an hour or more and she was alone.

Then, there was a notification.

It only wanted her to have Awsten there with her more, wondering what maybe one day just them for a holiday would be like. Was the shinking about the future with him? Well yes, but she'd never admit it.
