It's been a few days and nobody has talked about what happened that night. Cherie often ignored Hope, and only talked to her to say 'good morning', 'goodnight', or something else short. They haven't made full conversations, Hope being worried that it will lead to another argument between them.
Hope spent most of the day in her room, messaging back and forth with Awsten, right now he was the only person that could make her smile. Lee tried her best to cheer her up, but her efforts made no difference.
There was a knock on Hope's door, it was her dad.
She told him to come in, and he sat on her bed next to her. "We haven't talked about what happened Friday night, but I think it's good if we did."
Hope rolled her eyes, "Dad, if you're trying to get mom and I to talk again you're not going to help."
"I meant, let's talk just you and me. Where do you want to start?"
"Let's start at the fact that mom has never had a chance to actually meet Awsten and she's been stereotyping him, and a bunch more shit!"
Roy tried to keep his composure and took a deep breath, "Okay so, what's he like?"
Hope immediately smiled, "If you get me started I might just not be able to stop."
"But I can tell from the way that you smiled he's not like what your mom has called him to be?"
"Dad, I wouldn't be with him if he was," Hope said, as if it was obvious.
"Okay, okay, so just tell me more about him."
"He is the most hilarious, loving, caring person on this planet. It's like his smile can just make anyone that sees it smile too. He's so down to earth and understanding, and instead of just arguing, he talks it out with you. He doesn't take his anger out on someone. His eyes..oh my god." Hope thought it was a little weird talking about Awsten like this to her dad, but after a sentence or two, she knew he really wanted to hear about who he is.
"It sounds like you really like this guy, huh?"
"I really do. I just wish that mom would take the time to actually get to know him. It's so unfair she won't listen to me." Hope crosses her arms, leaning back on the wall.
"I know, but it's going to take time."
This sentence was the one that set Hope off, "She will never take the time to actually listen to me, I don't know how you put up with this woman. But if she starts one more argument with me I will leave, and you wish I was joking, but I'm not."
Roy couldn't get a word in before Hope started talking again, "I'm just going to go on a walk, I don't know for how long, but I'm just going to clear my head."
*time skip*
It's been about twenty minutes since Hope started her walk, she didn't decide to call anyone because in all honesty, she didn't want to bother anyone.
She couldn't release the thoughts racing through her head.
What the hell is going on? Why won't she just take the time to listen to me about Awsten? It's just so stupid. I feel like I should call him and talk to him about it, but I did that last night and all I'll talk about is just the same thing. Am I annoying him about the situation? He knows he ridiculous she can get, so it isn't much of a surprise to him.
After a couple more minutes of Hope questioning herself, she finally decides to call him and take a chance if he wants to talk about it.
She found a bench to sit on where no one was near her and could hear her conversation.
Awsten didn't answer when she tried once, but she decided to call him once more. Then, he answered.
"Hey lovely," Awsten said immediately with a smile on his face.
Hope laughed a little at the names he calls her every time they talk, he could tell, and figured he say something about it, "I'm definitely not going to stop, it's adorable watching you blush."
She hadn't have someone talk to her like that in so long, it all felt different this time though. It made her feel happier than the happy she felt when somebody else said it. His words made her heart skip, she wondered why anyone would hurt and leave him.
"Can I talk to you about my mom again? I think it's going to be every day now," Hope tried to laugh it off, but there was still an aching feeling.
"Yeah, what's going on?"
She sighed quietly, "My mom won't even talk to me after what happened. I really regret saying what I did, but I still feel like it needed to be said."
"If you're definitely sure that you needed to say it, then it's probably good that you did."
"If this happened in high school I would never see the light of day again, my mom would probably lock me in the house until I'm forty."
"Why's that?" Awsten genuinely sounded confused, which is what Hope never expected him to be about this.
"It's the sex before marriage shit. But it's not like either of us lost our virginity the first time we did," There was a small pause and Hope's eyes widened, thinking that she might have been wrong. "Right?"
Awsten started laughing, "No, no, no, I did a while ago, we just don't need to get into that detail right now. What we do need to talk about is why she's not even talking to you. You're there for a reason and she's just been ignoring you for days?"
"That's exactly it. She'll also sit as far away from me as she can, and only does things with my dad and sister. Right in front of me, she tells them, don't ask her to come with us, she'll ruin it all. Like I'm some kind of villain? All I'm doing is trying to spend time with my family and she's the one ruining it," Hope talked rather quickly that it took Awsten a few seconds to take in what she had said.
Awsten's mouth was slightly hung open through the pause, but found the words to say, "If she's doing this to you all because of me, I have no problem going there and talking to her. I will leave this house right now and-"
Hope cut him off from talking any more, "You shouldn't, honestly. As much as I need to see you in person again, it'll just piss her off even more."
"Speaking of getting pissed off, I have to-" Awsten was cut off yet again by Hope, but this time her face went pale.
"My mom is calling me, I have to go. Tell me later?" Her voice was now frantic, and Awsten nodded.
