Chapter 4 - Fillun wakes up

"Fillun," whispered Bonnar, standing over his bed.

"Hello, Mister ..." said Fillun, trying to smile.  He looked up and saw a tall man with dark hair, smiling at him.

"My name is Lord Elstar but you can call me Bonnar. Do you remember me from before?" asked Bonnar, looking sympathetically at the pale teenage boy.

"Yes, I think we played at the palace when you visited a few years ago." replied Fillun, smiling, and then he remembered that his parents were gone, and he was in a strange house in a different country.

Bonnar saw his expression changing from a smile to something like fear.

"It's alright to be sad, Fillun. I know what happened to your parents. I am a friend of your family and your grandmother wanted me to protect you because she felt you wouldn't be safe if you stayed at the palace." Bonnar explained.

The boy started crying again, feeling alone.

"It's OK, hush," comforted Bonnar as he pulled him close. The boy looked up into his eyes and searched for something, comfort, affection, hope, he didn't know.

"How long am I going to stay here?" asked Fillun.

"This is the house we have in the mountains, Fillun, we came here last night while you were asleep. Tomorrow we will go to my castle where we will stay. And I think you'll like it, there are lots of rooms to explore and you can play with the other boys and girls who live in the castle grounds. How does that sound?"

The boy started crying again, he was feeling very unsure of himself in these surroundings, and the thought of moving on somewhere else already was bothering him.

"Of course if you wanted we could stay here for an extra day or two and I can show you the mountains and the views of Velastria. Would you like that?"

"Yes!" enthused the boy. "I want to see my city. Can we see it from here?"  He looked at him again and saw the man gazing out the window, down over the valley.

"That we can, Fillun. If we look out this window" - he opened the curtain and pointed down the mountains into the distance "- that's the capital city. You are just over the line into Cavonia here, this is another country, but we're close to Velastria here. And my family comes from Velastria too, I used to live there when I was a boy", explained Bonnar

The boy sat for some time looking out the window, and Bonnar left the room quietly.
