Chapter 18 - Visit to the castle

After their return to the castle, they had to start making plans for the future.

Both of them wanted to get revenge on the rebels, and both had their own plan on recovering the life that had been stolen from them.  Even their anger would be enough to carry them through whatever they had to do.  However if they achieved this, would anger be enough to make them happy afterwards? 

Bonnar began to ask himself some serious questions and decided he needed to spend some time alone thinking about the future and how they should move forward.  He needed some space.  But if he left Fillun in the castle there could be danger and he couldn't accept this.  What else could he do - put him back in the abbey for a few days? Surely he wouldn't accept this!

He decided to ask the Knight Chevalier, head of the knights of the temple, to visit.  He would discuss the possibility of Fillun going to the temple and taking part in the activities for a few days.  Now that he was eighteen, this was the plan, but he wanted to introduce the idea slowly and not have Fillun think he was shipping him off somewhere else for the sake of it.  So he sent a message via the horsemen to the Knight Cavalier.

“Dear Knight Chevalier

I would like to speak with you about the possibility of someone who has been in my care taking some time to study the art of warfare with your knights, and to this end I would like to invite you to visit the castle and meet him. 

If you are willing to do this please accept my invitation to stay at the castle at your convenience and get to a trusted young man who is in my care. 

I am anxious for him to receive such training in advance of plans for future action further afield, just as we spoke about before.

Please accept my sincere and humble salutations and my warmest regards.”

Bonnar knew that not saying who Fillun was prevented him from being clear with the knights, but the safety of Fillun’s life was at stake and he couldn’t take a chance at having the message intercepted.  Anyway, he knew that the Knight Chevalier would trust his word and accept his reasons for not being more specific.

Two days later the horsemen returned with a note from the Knight Chevalier, accepting his invitation and intending to visit over the next few weeks but due to current activities not certain about which date.

After a few days, two horse riders in full knight armour pulled up outside the castle and announced themselves to the footmen.  They were the Knight Chevalier and the wizard  who was the former Knight Chevalier.

OK people things are changing here - the story has to move forward because both Fillun and Bonnar have to make a move on fulfilling their life's ambitions and promises for revenge.  So watch this space and please leave some comments!
