Chapter 22 - Letters

 Dear Fillun, my love,

We are going to see each other at last! We have arranged to come to meet you with Lord Elstar, in a town in the mountains in the north of Velastria. He will make the arrangements and you will travel with him to meet us.

Dear grandmother,

I am so happy that you are coming to meet me, and that I will see you again! I hope your journey will be alright for you, I know that it won't be easy for you to travel but I know you will be happy to come and see me again.

I have come to a decision.  In order to train and learn to fight for what is mine, I will join the knights of Cavonia for a time.

I understand you had already been discussing this with Bonnar, Lord Elstar.  I know he has already spent time with these knights and that they are fine people and very good at what they do.  Moreover I hope to learn not just warfare but to actually participate in battle during my time with them.  I know that this will worry you but this is part of my destiny and I know that you will accept this.

 Bonnar has a very special place in my heart, grandmother, and I hope that when we meet again, you can welcome him warmly, not just for what he has done for me, but because he has become very dear to me and I care what happens to him.  I hope you can understand this and will explain it better to you when I see you.

 We are spending some time in the mountains, from where we will travel to Zoroastria to meet you.

 Dear grandson

 I have learned with pride that you are to join the knights.  I approve of your joining them and I think it is a marvellous opportunity to learn how to participate in the things that a member of the royal house would be expected to do.  When I think of your father and mother I know that they are smiling down on you and would approve of what you are doing.

 I understand your attachment to Lord Elstar and hope you can find it to repay him with kindness in the same way he has looked after you.  By this I do not mean money or lands; I mean the kindness that comes from caring and looking after someone.  And I am sure your company is a solace to him while he is away from his own country and his family and lands.

 Fillun, I am overjoyed that we will meet soon.  I have cried many tears during these years we have been apart, and am so happy to come to meet you.  I understand that the knights are sending some of their number to come and protect us on our journey. So you know how much the Ollow family, and Royal House of Velastria, will owe to these men.  I expect that you will keep them in your heart and respect the wisdom they will impart to you, as you learn and experience with them.
